Two friends have memories of this hotel from way, way back: one is Norwegian and remembers staying at the hotel with her parents and being introduced to Trygve Lie, the UNO Gen. Sec. The other is Australian and has the following story to tell: "We staff seemed to live on boiled cod which I have never eaten since! There was a strict hierarchy in the staff dining room - the office staff, cook and housekeeper at the top table and the kitchen staff and cleaners at the other end. The "foreigners" chose to buck the system and we all sat together, whatever our jobs!"
