Day 13 - Mon 10th Nov - Salto, Uruguay
We got off the bus about 20 minutes away fromthe Uruguary border (in the middle of nowhere!) at 6.30am and had 4 taxis waiting to pick us up. We then had to cross the border control (about the6th time in two days now) which took ages but finally we made it to our hotel in Salto about 8.30am.
Luckily the rooms were ready for us to check into (although not very nice) but we headed straight into town to the currency exchange as we all needed to get Uruguayn pesos for the first time. Then stopped for breakfast (the obligatory ham and cheese toasty).
Salto is a spa town - and thats about it, there really is nothing there although supposedly its the 2nd largest city in Uruguay.
6 of us went to the spa for the day (I had facial and massage for about 30 pound), and just relaxed for the day on the loungers as we were all shattered from the travelling. The ´spa´ itself just seemed to be lots of indoor and outdoor pools (all with hot water not one cool one), and some scary looking shower things (looked like some form of torture chamber where you lie on a bed and have jets squirted on you). The whole placehad seen better days to be honest but it was quite relaxing.
Out for dunner in the evening (managed to have a meal with no steak and no cheese!) then early night as we have to leave at 5.30am for the next leg of the horrendous journeys.
Although the journey to Salto broke up the travelling we all felt it was a completely unneccesary as there was absolutely nothing to do!
If you´re ever heading to Uruguary give Salto a miss!!
