Before we arrived in Pinnawala we had a bit of trouble! We planned to leave Thursday morning at 7.15 to get the 7.35 train, when arriving at the train station we were told that the workers were on strike and there would be no trains running! As a result of this we had to get a driver half way across the country, which you can imagine wasn't cheap for us travelers!
After the worst car journey of our lives we finally arrived late afternoon in Pinnawala. Watching the elephants bath as we had our lunch soon brightened our moods though! After our lunch we went to see the elephants at the edge of our hotel, this was lovely as it was something very new to us. As I (Lucy) was taking a picture of Pete with an elephant it decided to take my flip flop and walk away with it, the elephant then continued to stamp on my flip flop and then finally ate it :( !! Bye bye flip flop !! The hotel we were staying in that evening was extremely quiet and odd!
Today we woke up early for breakfast and then went to the elephant orphanage only a 5 minute walk away. This was the best thing ever! I even got to feed a baby elephant :P !! After spending a few hours at the orphanage we then followed the elephants to their bath where we again watched from our hotel.
As the trains at STILL on strike we have to get a driver back to Negombo tomorrow so we are nearer the airport for our flight to Singapore on Sunday.
