Hampi - Kochin via Bangalore
Actually, everything went yo plan as far as I can remember! The train from Hospet was on time! I arrived into Bangalore early morning and walked about 15 min to a hotel. I had to cross through rickshaws that were 3 deep to make it to the main road and then had to try and cross about 5 lanes of traffic. Only after returning to the city later in my trip did I realise that there was an underpass. There were no signposts; it is just one of those things you are supposed to know.
I took a reasonably nice hotel room even though I was catching a train that evening. I was pretty ill again and spent much of the day locked in the room sleeping or watching national georaphic on the box. I did manage to venture out to find some internet and to try and feed myself. There wasnt exactly much that I wanted to see anyway. Bangalore does not really have any tourist sights.
That evening I had another simple train journey and then caught a rickshaw toward the main boat jetty once in Ernakulam (the city part of Kochin). I walked into a hotel just behind another backpacker and we ended up sharing a room. We had never even spoken before then, but both wanted to save half the cash. I spent the rest of the day with Daniel including taking a trip over to Fort Cochi where I secured a fantastic hotel room at a knockdown price. My friend Angela was arriving the next day for a 2 week holiday. I also took a wander in the stuffy afternoon heat around the coast of Fort Cochi and down to a place called Mattancherry. The whole area is a relic of colonialism and has lots of pretty Portuguese architecture.
