Lovewells vs The World
Today we ventured into the RAF Museum near London... One of the items on Gemma's wish list. It is a huge museum across four hangars, with more than 100 planes. The display is very well laid out, with a lot of information displayed in many different ways, so it held the interest of all parties. There was a very cool area called "aeronauts" which was an interactive exhibit based around the science of flight. It also had a hang glider you could lie on and operate, and a real fighter jet cockpit to sit in. Along with some very cool physics experiments! The highlight for us was the simulation experiences though. The first was a 4D battle movie, joining the crew on a bombing raid, before crashing. It was a very accessible simulation for those of us not too mad on "rides". The next was a four minute simulated trial flight in Tornado... And holy heck was that a simulation and a half! With no seat belt, the kids and I were clinging to the handles, and each other as we put the aircraft through its paces. We were flung sideways, lurched from our seats, and we all lost our stomachs as we went through a series of dives and barrel rolls - it was brilliant! When I came out my legs were like jelly, Alfred looked like a stunned mullet, and Daniel took 1/2 and hour to stop being dizzy. Gemma however waltzed out with that terrifying look of 'yep that's what I want to do when I grow up'...
