Yaaaay my adventure has begun!!!! I am officially in India! Ok this is 6 days on....so it's gonna be a long one!
I got off to a less than smooth start when the day I flew out from the UK, what I had planned as a nice relaxing day with Stu and Elaine was actually spent running around like crazy people trying to get all the last bits sorted!!! It def did not help that 3 hours before my flight I had to go out and buy a bigger backpack and repack all my stuff!!!! Stu and Elaine were amaazing though! I would have been so lost without them! And THEN my flight from London was delayed due to technical problems with the plane....safe, and the poor flight staff had an angry mob of Indians on their hands! It got wild! Anyways, a nice 2 flights later, I was in Goa!!! And I had my first curry on the plane! Woohoo! Spilt half of it down me also...great.
It was strange flying over all the slums in Mumbai as we landed. It looks exactly like Slumdog millionaire!
Got picked up from Goa airport for a very interesting drive to the hostel in Anjuna! It felt like a video game dodging all manner or things in the road....cows, people, mopeds, dogs. It seems that as long as you beep your horn, you're free to do whatever! Drive 3 cars to 1 lane, drive in the opposite lane, you name it!! It was certainly different!
Hostel was dead at first, but I tagged along with 2 English travellers (Rich and Jen) for dinner who were well handy!!! They explained the menu to me cos I don't do curries! I was very lost! They also emphasised the importance of hand sanitizer! I think they've got me hooked!
The next day Rich and Jen were getting a taxi south to Agonda, and persuaded me to sacrifice my next 2 days in Anjuna and go with them!! Done!! There wasn't much to do in Anjuna. Had an aawesome 2 hour taxi ride to Agonda, loooads to see on the way! Including an elephant walking down the highway! Awesome!!! I can't get over the cows that just cruise in the roads without a care! Love it
Omg am I glad a got dragged to Agonda! It's amazing! We were the only tourists there. Got a lil room near the beach, and then explored the beautiful beach!! A bus load of picnicking Indians got very excited taking our photo! Felt a bit celebrity!
It felt like we were staying in this person's home, because the lady in charge made us Thali and brought it out to our little veranda! So yummy!!! Total home cooking! All this sitting on my backside is exhausting! I had to pack in about 9pm, and I can't even blame jetlag cos I'm 4.5 hours ahead of the UK!!!!
*Day 2*
Next day we spent 2 hours climbing rocks on the beach and swimming in the bath temp. water! We found hoof prints in the sand, and eventually came across cows ON THE BEACH!!!! We got ridiculously excited about this and harrassed the poor sunbathing cows for a good while with our cameras!
Turns out we should have put sunscreen on, we all got frazzled! After enjoying our totally deserted beach, we taxied down to Palolem. Much busier there! Pretty buzzing, loadsa tourists. Found a room with a huuge bed for the 3 or us, and then went for a wander! Another gorgeous beach inhabited by loooads of dogs, cows, women in saris, fishing boats! It was fab!!! We spent a lot of time in the bars on the beach front. Got very harrassed by the saried women trying to sell us stuff that we realy didn't want! They managed to guilt trip us into buying a few things!
Later on we bumped into 2 of the ppl we met in Anjuna!!! What luck! Spent the night eating fish and drinking lots!!! Hit up the one little club on the beach, well cool!
*Day 3 + 4*
Spent the next 2 days wandering between bars/restaurants on the beach, having naps, and going swimming! It's a very hard life! Went to a gorgeous little authentic Thai restaurant both nights, and got some AMAZING thai food!!! Soooo good! Had a little guitar jam-sesh on the second night and met a bunch of middle-aged ex-pat men who were clearly just loving their beach bum lives! Jen and Rich left us :-( We drank lots more, and Knox the chef gave us tequila yaaay! Partied late....good times
