After some serious flight time we eventually arrived in Bangkok. It was 10am but we were still running on UK / Africa time so it was only 3am in our world. Half asleep we headed for the toilet to change * hot outside and set about getting to the city by train. Easy enough direct underground from airport terminal. We had booked a hotel last minute at Heathrow and luckily this was needed for landing card details!! Once out of the station we set about walking to the Dang Derm our hotel....10 minutes later so hot, so sweaty, such big backpacks and so walking the wrong way we jumped into a taxi. taxi dropped us off at the top of Kao San Road (see photo) we looked aghast at the 7 things to do on this road and thought OMG. We had not researched at all and this was the place to be apparently, well we will see! Finally we checked In (great room) and headed up to the pool and roof terrace, yes mate!!.... Result.
That evening we walked the Kao San Road and neighbouring streets trying the Pad Thai and various buckets of cocktails, we gave the cockroaches on sticks a miss though! What's that all about!! The street was heaving, young, old and we just couldn't help but get caught up in it all, rest assured no tattoos acquired!(mum). The next day we visited the Royal palace, various temples and the gigantic reclining Buddha. Here we stopped to observe the school children at school contained within the temple grounds. All pretty amazing sights, initially overwhelming and jaw dropping and then it kinda gets..well just...bling and gold.
Another evening, another party, this time we sat in a roof bar and watched the road below and changing scenery. We were there long enough to witness the food and clothes stalls adeptly be packed away and replaced by a few youths, DJ equipment, chairs and a cool box full of beer. Party started!,... From here Louise was particularly enamoured with a little girl maybe 2 or 3 years of age who was playing whilst her mother sat and made bracelets. Later that evening (3am) we met the same little girl who proceeded with the hard sell ( literally hitting me with an umbrella saying you need you buy) . We left with a hands free umbrella ( don't ask), bracelet and no money! Her name was Luna! (Ali D)
The next day we chilled on the road once more before embarking on the night train North. The night train duh dur duh...Bangkok It Was the place to be.....Fun with a capital F.
