We landed at Johannesburg Tambo Airport at 9am local time (1 hour ahead) after a very smooth night flight. We proceeded through passport control towards bag collection I (Sarah) see a big bill board highlighting the need to keep yourself safe in Joburg.... "We are the only taxi service to keep you safe" etc. I took a sharp intake of breath and tried to "manage my anxieties" it was all good though because we had sourced a lodge for 2 nights and a transfer!!!! Exiting we duly looked for our man holding the Miss Lissaman sign and we duly looked and looked some more, granted we were an hour late but still come on its African time. At this point Louise says "come on let's grab a Taxi?" I immediately started crying about the sign I saw and the amount of guns on show, I wasn't feeling very safe........ Louise sources a "safe" taxi and we set off for the lodge at a very fast speed with windows and doors locked......Upon arrival at the gated barbed wired venue, we get out of the car to check in, Louise checks in whilst I once again try to manage my anxieties. We obtain the key to no18 Mannah Lodge and although the room and venue is wonderful ( well as wonderful as a gated venue patrolled by armed guards can be!) I want to go home....... We get some much needed sleep, awake and go to check out our surroundings. It becomes apparent that we are in some area as filmed by Reggie Yates or Stacey Dooley (for those that don't know these names Google name and Johannesburg!) so we put ourselves on lock down till Safari time. We order dinner and notice the lack of people, once again we have a wonderful location and staff all to ourselves. After dinner we head off for an early night although we think it's much later as the sun sets very quickly at 5:30pmish and dream of freedom!!!
