A city break from Thursday afternoon till Monday morning ... Have heard good things about this city so looking forward to it!!
We arrived at Brisbane on Thursday lunchtime for our weekend city break. Our first venture was to the city centre for a wander around the shops!!! A new bargain bikini each and new bargain sandals made for a successful afternoon!!! A walk in the direction of the river took us past the Cathedral and to the trendy east Harbour for a drink whilst we waited for the free ferry to take us back up the river to our hostel. Friday was a glorious day so we decided that we would venture the South Bank which is very similar to London's South Bank, a big wheel, trendy bars, cultural areas and a great vibe. The only thing that London doesn't have is a City Beach!!! Which they call 'Streets Beach'. After a ride
on the wheel to see the city views we stumbled on the Christmas market... Very strange!!! We grab a refreshing drink before we 'hit the beach' amazing.... A lovely day, lovely sand beach and a refreshing pool!!! Perfect day!!!
Saturday we awoke to rain... But still warm!!! So today we would chill at the hostel and Sarah would home cook a meal... Also Elf the movie was on tv to help with the Christmas feel!!! Tomorrow we will go on a train journey to Australia Zoo.
Sunday wasn't great weather but it was forecast to clear up!!! We got up early and caught the train to the zoo, an hour journey away!! At the train station there was a free bus to the famous Australia zoo set up and now in memory of Steve Irwin the famous crocodile hunter!!! There were plenty of crocs there and other animals we wouldn't see in our own zoo... See photos! We fed kangaroos, patted our new favorites Koalas and watched the Croc show, with some birds being flown and a few snakes being shown!!! A good zoo but a bit Americanized!! Whipsnade is still the best!!! We returned to the city about 5 and grabbed ourselves a 6$ roast dinner and a couple of drinks before returning to the hostel to pack ready for our bus journey into the Gold Coast. Love Brisbane... May return soon!!!
