CENTRAL THAILAND 6TH-8TH NOVEMBER 2006
To get from Kanchanaburi to Um Prang we made two over night stops, one in Ayuthaya, and one in Sukhothai.
On the 6th we left Kanchanaburi by local bus, changing at Suphanburi, and arriving at Ayuthaya roughly 5 hours later. Ayuthaya is back east and is only 86km north of Bangkok. It is one of Thailands ancient capitals and people come visiting mainly for the ruins scattered around the area. Once we arrived and booked onto a room at PU Guesthouse, we hired a couple of bicycles and went for a cycle around the ruins so I could take a few piccies and bore Lewis to tears with more temples.
Our next stop was Sukhothai, 6 hours north of Ayuthaya by bus. Sukhothai is Thailands first capital, and the old city features around 45sqkm of ruins which have been made into a historical park. We decided against going to the historical park as it was already mid afternoon when we'd arrived and it probably would of killed Lewis with temple over-load! We checked into a room in an old teak house called Ban Thai, very nice and reasonable at 150B. We had an early night as there was a long day of traverlling ahead to reach Um Prang via Mai Sot.
