Hello,
Sorry for not updating this sooner!!! again so busy on the tour, going from one place to the next.
Will brief you on what has been happening over the last week or so.
We left the Cameron Highlands on the 28th November, the day after my birthday...... believe it or not it was a quiet one....not much to do there!!! however i did get a birthday cake from the tour leader (Which i'm sure you can imagine iain was pleased about - I think he ate most of it!!)
We arrived in Kuala Lumpur in the afternoon and travelled by public bus which we were dreading...but we were surprised to find it had air-con, and almost fully reclining seats!!
Our accomodation was quite central to everything.
We only had a day and a half so tried to get in the most important things to see.... obviously the KL tower and the Petronas Towers were the main highlight.... as you can see from the photos.....very nice!!! Visited times Square shopping centre, which was fully equipped with a theme park, think it worked out at 8 pounds to get in...not bad.
Managed to fit in a trip on the "Hop on hop off" bus which took us through the city centre and showed the main highlights of KL (couldn't believe it when I saw shops like Zara, Topshop, M&S, Prada, Gucci etc.)
It was a really nice place, more westernised than Thailand.
We then travelled to Melaka by public bus...to be honest not much to see there, we ate a chinese food market which was very cheap and, as we were only there for an afternoon, we didn't do too much.
Left for Singapore on the 1st of Dec in the morning..... our tour leader had told us it is a very strict country with regards to bringing in cigarettes, (Only allowed 19 in the packet) chewing gum is not allowed to be brought into the country either!!!
Loved Singapore though..... we all went out for lunch at Clarke Quay which sits on the Singapore river.....and guess where we ate................ Hooters!!.........apparently the guys in the group said it was ther first in Asia. It was actually quite tasteful...........although not sure if that was because it was during the day?
A few of us went on a river cruise which was really good to see the city from the waterside, rather than try and navigate through the streets and busy traffic.
As this was our last night together as a group we all went out for dinner......but that went horribly wrong.....won't bore you with the details, afterwards we planned on going for a few drinks, then realised that for one bottle of beer it was $S18 !!! (about 9 pounds a drink)
The next day we went on the city tour bus which was really good, and Raffles with Matrin and Ciara (a couple we met from the group) we ordered 2 singapore slings and two beers which came to a grand total of $S98!! yes we only stayed for one drink!
Visited Sentosa Island which is just south of Singapore, it is a purpose built beach resort, which is still being developed It was nice to see a bit of a beach as we have been in the city for a while.
Left on the 3rd December and headed to Darwin. Our flight was delayed by 2 hours, but as luck had it, when we arrived at the hotel at 8 oclock we asked to check in early which we were able to do at no extra cost!!! ...just as well, as we were on the night flight from Singapore to Darwin and, although it was only 4 hours and 40 minutes, Darwin is an hour and a half ahead...needless to say we were VERY tired.
So we are now in Australia, will update our blog after we come back from our
Red Centre Safari which leaves tomorrow at 11am!
Hope you are all well,
speak soon
