So we decided to go to Hong Kong to get our China visas, as it is close to where we needed to be to get our flight from Guangzhou to LA.
We booked a cheap flight out of Phuket to Hong Kong..and I have to say we were surprised to find accommodation at a reasonable price, as we had spoke to a few people along the way who had said that Hong Kong is very expensive (which it was...... struggled to find anywhere for less than 70 a night!!) but good old trip advisor came up trumps again.....it was a YWCA for about 30 a night in Kowloon...... not on Hong Kong island but only 2HK$ each on the ferry!
Hong Kong is an amazing place, there are so many shopping malls...along with the high price shops, Prada, Gucci, LV, etc.......... so it could be an expensive place...if you were shopping here!! We also found a few M&S's........with the food hall.....have eaten so many M&S sandwiches here!!! (good old Blighty!!....lol!)
There's so much to see here.... on our first night we walked down to "Avenue of the Stars " where there is a laser light show at the harbour at 8pm every night.....the skyline of Hong Kong island is amazing!!!!
We also done all the usual touristy stuff like taking the city tour bus, and going down to Stanley bay.
There is a main street in Kowloon- Nathan road, it has dozens of shopping centres, cafes, restaurants, and the odd Irish bar thrown in for good measure!
Got our visa sorted (it took a few days to process) and now we're booked on a train to China. We've just found out that we are hitting China during a bit of a holiday season (and the Shanghai Expo) so we'll see what we can get to see when we arrive (initial info is that the trains etc are expected to be well busy......but we'll try to work something out!!!)
Hope you are all well back home......keep all of your photos and blog comments comming.....we love reading them!!!
