Hi sorry its been so long but we have been very busy having fun!
We arrived in Sydney with mixed emotions about giving back Betty but looking forward to a proper bed each.
We went for a wander round Sydney and had a tour in the Opera House which was very interesting and we got to see inside the concert halls where the orchestra was practicing and the stage was being set for a opera. We learnt lots of interesting facts to bore you all with like the tiles on the outside are not white they are many shades of grey and yellow.
We were up early on our second day as we were off to the Blue Mountains to do a little hiking!!!! yes really. Our guide was a little over enthusiastic for 8 in the morning but we had a nap on the bus then it was fine. We saw a wild kangaroo having his breakfast, then headed further north to have a walk around the cliffs it was very steep in places but Ash never fell over. Although she did have her face painted like an aboriginal.
We had lunch which was free (we like free as everything is very expensive and we are very poor). Then got back to our hike near the 3 sisters. It was lovely and pretty but very steep and slippery so Ash did was she does best and fell over hurting her foot but she was not alone as another man fell several times in front of everyone.
We got the steepest funicular railway up to the top, i loved it, it was like a rollercoaster but Ash wasnt keen and didnt look down. She loved it really, at the top.
In the evening we did the hostel quiz and I made all our room mates come down so we could bond we were doing really well until the tongue twister round when no one wanted to do it so we didnt win.
On our third day the weather was nice so we took the opportunity to climb the Harbour Bridge two of our roomies came with us which was good i needed someone to prod Ash when she got scared. Our guide was Damien and security was stricter than an airport. We got to wear attractive overalls and hats. The climb was about 2 1/2 hours long with stops to catch our breath. The views were really good and we could see the whole of Sydney all the way from the Blue Mountains to Bondi in the west. No one fell off as we were tied on but 39 people have committed suicide off the bridge and 3 died on the bridge when it was being built.
After we had a walk around Darling Harbour before going back to the hostel, which was ok but nothing special. Wednesday night was cheap lasange night so we had that.
The weather was a bit rubbish the next day so we took a ferry to Manly beach in the wind and rain. We had fish and chips on what is probably a nice beach in the sun. In the evening we had a few beverages in the bar as our roomies were in the pool comp so we cheered them on.
Our last day in Sydney we went to Bondi Beach as the weather was better although not really beach weather. It was quite small and the waves were huge, you cant really swim there as there is massive rip current but we still had ice cream and dipped our toes.
We got the night bus to Melbourne which was not as bad as we thought but took 12 hours.
We loved Sydney and could probably spend another week there doing loads of new things, one of my favourite places so far.
