Hello again!
Yesterday continued to be cool, cloudy and drizzly, so we spent the morning going round the shops and a local museum. We then decided to visit the local vineyard ('winery' here) and do a tour and wine tasting (well, what can you do?!). 2 hours, a lot of wine, cheese and crackers to be pretentious and very well informed (7m deep roots of a vine, I have you know), we fell into the transport back to the lodge and cracked open a dodgy New Zealand Merlot, going to bed after an own-cooked meal at 10pm (not drunk, just very relaxed).
Woke this morning to blue skies and sun and it's probably hit 23/24 celsius today. After a wlak to see the seals sunbathing on the rocks, we stopped at a trailer selling local fresh fish and ate crayfish, mussels and scallops. It was then time for Chris to go off kayaking around on a tour for 3 hours and I went off to the airfield to try and find whales by plane. SUCCESS!! 2 sperm whales just off the coast surfaced and gave us the most amazing view. So beautiful.
Back in the lodge now with a few hours left to chill before dinner and a beer in town tonight. Quite sad to be moving on back to Christchurch tomorrow but know that we have so much more to see and looking forward to meeting our fellow Contikite tour members.
Chow!
