Yes I'm still alive and safe .......if anyone out there gives a toss !!!

New years eve in mar del plata, Argentina, with the start of the Dakar rally was amazing! After a rather over-priced and nondescript evening meal in town it was time to find a bar to bring in the new year, easier said then done ! Wandered around for a while and the only suggestion we could come up with was to find a hotel bar. With that we happened upon a nh hotel that had loads of Dakar trucks lined up outside and plenty of support crews inside .........how far would we get inside ?? Actually all the way to the bar, then into the hospitality area for the free buffet and pink champagne ! Not bad .........

Midnight struck and everyone went outside to see the fireworks display, which were going off everywhere. Big Dakar trucks and fireworks being set off all around them .......fantastic ! So why didn't I bring my bloody camera ........

Next morning the plan was to head to the start. But what time was it all starting?? Apparently bikes were starting at 5.45am......aaargh!!!

What did I do ? Damned well overslept ! b***** !! Never mind a chiles out day having a ride-out to Miramar, neighbouring seaside town that the competitors were riding through, much more relaxed vibe here!

Next day was time to head back to Buenos Aires and the apartment to pack up and begin the trip for real ............
