Christmas Day night was spent in front of a crap film ('You've Got Mail' - unfortunately!), drinking Baileys before falling asleep infront of the flick - just as it should be on Christmas Day!
Boxing Day morning we rose early and met (still a very 'poorly') Kelly for coffee and breakfast before catching the 10.30am airport shuttle. We arrived at the airport and checked in using the swanky automatic self-check in computer, before dropping our bags at the 'bag drop' (Sarah's had decreased in weight to 20.8kg and Laura's had somehow increased to 20.3kg!). We browsed the shops and ate some Krispy Kremes (mince pie filling and butterscotch) before our flight left on time at 1.15pm. It was the shortest time we'd spent travelling, but we still managed to sleep through it. However, we did manage to stay awake long enough to catch a fabulous bird's-eye view of the city, Bondi Beach and the hundreds of the boats in the Sydney to Hobart Boat Race. We arrived in Melbourne at 2.45pm and took the Skybus to our hostel (All Nations). We dropped our bags off and headed straight out exploring. We walked along the Southbank, soaking up the atmosphere and stopping for a sunsoak by the Yarra River before heading towards the MCG (where Australia were playing India) for piccies, before settling on some deckchairs in Federation Square, in front of a big screen showing the cricket. We headed back to the hostel along the Southbank, calling at Cole's for some tea, then settling back at the hostel infront of the telly, with our grub! After enjoying a Spice Girls Reunion documentary we flopped into bed.
This morning we enjoyed a rare semi-lie-in and managed to drag ourselves down to the kitchen for our free breakie of toast, jam and marmalade. After re-freshing showers we headed out towards the Queen Victoria Market via Flagstaff Gardens. After a wonder and a fruit stop we headed towards Central Station, the State Library and Chinatown before heading down Spencer Street stopping by Parliament House and Treasury Gardens. Then it was back to Federation Square for some more cricket and to meet Kel and Stace. We back down the Southbank, making a brief detour to book our Neighbours and Phillip Island trips. On the Southbank we enjoyed a 'Trampoline Ice-Cream' (with no Trampolines in sight!?!) and more time in the sun, by the river, before catching the last few balls of the day in Fed Square. Then it was back to Southbank (again) for tea of gorgeous rice balls (Spinach & Feta and Thai Chicken) and mixed salad. Back at the hostel we enjoyed our free glass of wine in the bar before chilling out for the evening.
