OH MY GOD! SARAH ONLY DID A BUNGY TODAY!! No, neither of us can believe it either!
The day started like any other day on the road, cept we got a proper lie-in today - until 10.00am! Lovely! We had a lazy morning getting ready and settled with a early lunch of baked beans and meat balls on toast (that's right! Just the stuff!) in front of 'The Wedding' episode of Friends. We left the hostel at about 12.45pm and headed straight for the 'Gondola' upto the highest hill in Queenstown to enjoy some fab views. We opted for the healthy option of walking up the hill, turning down the 'easy-way-up' option! After about 40 minutes of puffing and panting (Sarah more so than Laura! - Fitness has gone totally out the window!) up the steep slopes we reached the top and it was well worth it, the views of 'The Remarkables' (mountain range that boarders Queenstown) and the quaint city below was gorgeous.
We browsed the souvenir shop and settled with an apple in the canteen, with the fab views beside us. From our window seat we could also see 'The Ledge' bungy and swing platform, which is where we saw a guy, attached to a bungy cord (around his middle), dangling mid-air, before he left go of the saftey rope and swung out towards the city and back again, just like a massive swing. It was this that Sarah thought, "Well, that doesn't look too bad! I could do that!" So we headed for the A.J Hackett bungy office for a closer look. We saw a few people throw themselves off the bungy platform and it took Sarah a good hour to decided that (with the help of Laura, who DIDN'T do it!) if she had enough guts to do the swing, than she had enough guts to do the proper full-on bungy! So at 3.45pm, Sarah made the 'Deathrow Walk', into the jaws of hell, towards the bungy platform! Okay, maybe that's a bit dramatic, but you do it and see how dramatic you suddenly become!! Sarah was fitted with a safety harness that she stepped into and went round her waist. - Non of that being attached by the feet, dangling upside down like a maggot on a fishing rod melarky(!), which Sarah actually preferred! After numerous, "I can't do it, no, I'm not ready!" the safety guy gave her a prep (to focus forward and not down!) and 5 second countdown and ARRRRGGGHHH!! There she was flying gracefully though the air - plumeting to her death (above the mountain forest), then YOINK! The realiable bungy did it's jump and bounced her up and down, safely for a while, before a safety rope was fed down to her, she attached onto her harness and she was hoisted up to solid ground, well the platform! Totally elated we watched the video that Laura took off Sarah on her camera before heading back to the office to pay for the fab photographic proof! We headed straight down the hill and collect the photos (seeing Jorst, Katy and Georgie en-route to show-off!) from the office at the foot of the 'mountain'.
We then enjoyed a stroll on the waterfront and had our last ferg berger before some gorgeous ice-cream and back to the room to pack!
