This morning we enjoyed a lovely lie in, not waking up until just before 10.00am. We had both switched our alarms off mid-sleep too so we obviously needed the rest! We took our time getting ready and enjoyed a fruit salad for breakfast, then we headed to Backpackers World Travel to pay the remaining balance of our NZ Stray bus. We had a long wait in the shop as their was only one guy working and he was having a bad day! Once we had finished in the travel agents it was early afternoon so we had a wander through the town and called for an ice cream (tim tam cornetto!) before making our way up to the lighthouse. The walk was a bit longer than expected but the views from the top of the cape were well worth it. We even had a picture taken at the most easterly point of the Australian mainland. We walked back into Byron Bay along the beach and headed back to the hostel around 5.30pm to have a shower and get ready for the Australia Day festivities.
At 7.00pm we joined the majority of the hostel at an all you can eat bbq, enjoying steak, sausages and salads washed down with lots of wine! We played a few drinking games then headed across the road to Cheeky Monkeys, for free wine and dancing. We had a great night boogying and chatting with some guys, dressed as women (?!?!), from our hostel before shamefully stumbling drunkenly to bed just after midnight (I don't think we can handle alcohol in our old age, either that or we had just drank way too much wine!). Laura had to pretty much carry Sarah across the road, and had to shout at her to get in her own bed as she wanted to pass out in Lauras! A good night - we think! Happy Australia Day.
