After last night's adventure in Penang's 'Red Garden' Night Market where we sampled prawn fritters, chicken satay and dim sum, we woke bright and early and after breakie headed to Komtar to catch the bus to Penang Hill. We had to guess on the time, as no time tables(!), but luckily only had to wait half an hour.
We arrived at the lower station of the funicular railway at about 12.30pm only to find out the tickets up to Penang's highest point had sold out until 5.00pm! We reserved our seats for this time and decided to head out to one of the islands other popular attractions, Wek Lok Si, one of the largest Chinese Buddhist Temples in South East Asia. It wasn't far to trek and the street food and shops along the way helped!
After a wonder round and a gawp at the hundreds of turtles(some piled on top of each other!) in the turtle pond, we headed back to Penang Hill to wait for our train. We managed to catch the 4.45pm train and enjoyed the 30 minute ride up through the rain forest to the summit. Unfortunately , just as we arrived, the heavens opened and the clouds surrounded us - it did look pretty cool, though from all that way up and we managed to take some pics, just before the down pour and on our journey back down.
We took the bus back to George Town and headed straight to the Night Market, again! This time we sampled crispy duck with hoisin sauce, spring rolls and some won tons before heading back to our hostel to prepare for our journey to Kuala Lumpur tomorrow morning.
