Up and at out of the room by 8.15am, checked out of our cell-like room in the Evergreen Hotel, Jaipur and headed for Jai Ambay Travel Agents, where our bus was leaving from. It only took us about 20 minutes, with our 3 stone backpacks (arms going dead from the weight!) so we were there with plenty of time! Phew!
The bus arrived about 9.15am to 'board' (due to leave 9.30am), it was more like a mini bus this time, with the smallest boot in the world! Because they had ran out of room by the time we came to load our packs, the driver wanted us to put our bags on top of the bus! We were really concerned about this and adimently kept them with us on board, although we were told we couldn't! Because of some annoying Europeans (no idea where they were from!) we left little behind schedule. - They weren't happy with the seating arrangements (what would you expect from booking 7 seats for a bus that left within 20 minutes!?!), but they were re-arranged for them. The journey was not too bad, considering the size of the bus, which had no air conditioning, and the fact that we had to rest Laura's backpack over our laps.
After about a 3 and a half hour journey we arrived somewhere in the middle of Pushkar, not far from the Main Bazar. With the help of locals (both hotel owners and non-hotel workers) we arrived at our hotel, The Raghav Resort, just off the Main Bazar. It is set in large, green leafy surrounds and is very peaceful (the fan doesn't squeek in this one, unlike the prision cell of Evergreen!).
We checked in and headed straight out towards the lake, where we were set up in a con, straight away (although Sarah would like to believe some truth/ true tradition in this!). - We were given a head of a yellow flower (looked like a carnation) on the street and lead to the lakeside, where two men guided us for a ritual next to the lake, where we made a prayer for our families. At the end each guy asked us for a 'charity donation' - "10 - 50 pounds, or dollars, whatever you want to give" (I WANT to give one Rupee!!). They appeared shocked to discover we had no dollars, or sterling on us (we are in India and don't need them - duh!), so they wanted us to give 500-1000 Rupees! We ended us giving 50 Rupees each, very generous for a con in our opinion!
From here we wondered aroung the Main Bazar and streets of Pushkar, before deciding to share a late lunch/ early dinner of veggie pizza - not spicey, which pleased Sarah!
After a short stint on the net, we headed back to the lakeside (more wary this time!) to enjoy the sunset, which highlighted the beautiful lake, in a serene and romantic light. Truly stunning!
To set off our day, Laura discovered a Lizard in our room, much to her horror! We got Raghav, the hotel owner, to get it out - he noticed one more and returned that little fellow outside, too! Phew! Laura can have a pleasent night's sleep tonight!
