We had a long overdue lie-in and the laziest morning ever! After taking our time getting showered and sorted (good job we weren't in a rush because Sarah's poorliness had still left her lathargic) we headed for the cheap internet place to get upto date with pics, emails and general surfing!
We eventually set off on foot to explore the wonder that is Chennai, by about 2.00pm. We headed towards Marina Beach, passing the University of Madras and the Triumph of Labour memorial. We wondered a short while down the tacky beach market, when it started to spit with rain. As true Brits we soldiered on in the rain! It didn't last too long and by the time we got to prominade and Marina it had just about stopped. We decided to head north, today, and took in the War Memorial, Fort St George and the Forty Museum all of which looked as though they'd seen better days and were nothing to really write home about! We then got a rickshaw to St Andrews Kirk, which Laura found out provided great views of the city. This was by far the best part of the day and probably one of the most gorgeous cathedrals (inside and out) that we had ever seen. We stayed here for about half an hour, just soaking up the atmosphere and re-charging our batteries for the final leg back to the hotel. Unfortunately, we couldn't go up the spire for the views, due to construction. We didn't mind too much as it was raining again and the city itself wasn't really one that we thought would provide the most scenic of views!
We headed back towards our hotel at about 5.00pm and stopped off for a coffee and muffin enroute. By the time we got near our hotel it was after 6.00pm and we were ready for a bite to eat, so we stopped off at Saravana Bhavan, near the cinema. We felt the need to walk off our dinner so we headed a little further down the street and found Spencer Plaza, a sort of shopping centre with a food hall at the top including Domino's, KFC and Subway! Guess where we're going for dinner tomorrow!! After a wonder round we headed back to the hotel in the rain and hung up our clothes to dry and settled into another night of crap tellie!
