Woke up early to the prayers calls from a nearby mosque and headed to the Taj Mahal for 6am to watch the sunrise.
The Taj is an amazing structure and the whole site is so peaceful and spiritual, even with the amount of people visiting! We sat in full vie of the Taj for around an hour as the sun rose above it. Unfortunately there was still a hazy atmsphere and although it was beautiful we felt slightly cheated!
After walking round for a couple of hours and taking plenty of photos, as well as seeing a random monkey have a poo(!) just below the marbled mausoleum, it was still only just gone 8am! We therefore decided to wait and see if the sun could clear the haze anymore, whilst being asked for more photos and trying to decide whether the large amount of men we have seen holding hands were gay (something we thought would be frowned upon here) or simply more visibly affectionate!
After agreeing the sky was not going to clear we headed back to the hotel for a quick rest before checking out. As the internet in the area was down we had to make our way to the bus station and our next destination of Jaipur without any confirmed accommodation (argh!).
The bus journey was comfortable, like being on a very old and dusty national express, and we managed to get a bit of sleep despite the bumpy roads and constant beeping of the drivers horn!
We arrived in Jaipur and did encounter one slight problem when leaving the bus - when trying to retrieve backpacks - which we had locked together (making them harder to steal) - we found the lock to have broken! luckily we could untied a strap and release them from each other but we did panic a bit!
We then walked, what we thought, was the short distance to a hotel we knew of (it took ages!) only to find out they were full, as was the next nearest. The kind receptionist at the second hotel called a guest house in our guide book and we were relieved to find they had availability and were quite cheap (350 rupees per night). We took a rickshaw to the hotel and checked in fine.
A American man across the hall started talking to us (he looked like a stoner), he was in the jewellery business and all his family were sharing the one room. He invited us to a 'disco night' at a nearby hotel - we politely declined!
We headed out for a walk and a bite (ending up in MacDonalds - for what looked like an apple pie stuffed with spicy mushed veg!) Then it was back to the hotel for a well deserved early night (again!)
