This morning we were up at 7.30am after a rubbish nights sleep which we blame on jet lag and the noisy drunken Dublin girls wandering in and out of the room at all hours! Once we were ready we were greeted by Jorje, our Pachamama guide for the week, he directed us to the bus where Sergio, our driver, met us and loaded our bags. After everyone was on board we set of through the busy Santiago streets for a couple more pick ups, then we were on our way to Pichilemu on the coast.
The journey was just 3 hours but en-route (after 30 minutes) we stopped in the sleepy village of Pomaire, famous for its clay pottery. We wandered the stray dog infested streets and browsed the shops, buying some gorgeous diamante bangles on the way. After an hour in the town we boarded the bus and after a further hours drive we arrived at a hydro electric damn, where Sergio fed the big catfish crackers. We walked over the bridge and met the bus at the otherside, boarding again for our final hours drive into Pichilemu.
We arrived at Hostel Bahia around 2.00pm and checked in before heading out for some lunch. We all found a bar and sat outside with our traditional Chilean empenadas (chicken and cheese and ham and cheese), once we were suitable satisfied we had a walk around the town with Bella (a girl from Sheffield!), calling in the shops along the way. We headed down towards the beach and stumbled across a little market full of jewellery and clothes and other trinkets. We couldn´t resist the temptation of cheap and beautiful jewellery, so made a fair few purchases! After we were shopped out we walked to the end of the promenade and enjoyed the view of the black sand beach, including a lady who appeared to have no head (until it slowly appeared like a tortoise!)! By this time it was 6.00pm and we headed back to the hostel to get ready for our sunset bus ride at 7.00pm. Sergio drove us to the neighbouring bay which was very popular with extreme surfers attempting to catch the mega waves. We stayed at the observation point for a while waiting for the sun to set over the Pacific Ocean, although it was so cold we had to retreat back to the bus for a while, getting language lessons from Sergio! The sunset was beautiful but as soon as the sun dissappeared we were back on the bus and the warmth and we returned to the hostel. We had a quick stop for provisions for tomorrows long journey then it was time for dinner. We enjoyed pork steak, sausage and chicken leg with rice and salad before chatting in the lounge area and then heading to bed.
