Hi everyone,
We arrived safely if a little tired (I got a few hours sleep, dan got none) and headed to our hotel which is a bit posh (not exactly backpacking style) then headed out to explore with map in hand. We unfortunately went the wrong way (I'm blaming the jet lag) and ended up in the area where they have been having the political riots so a quick hop on the train got us back to the hotel where we crashed for the rest of the day.
Up early to explore in the right place. We caught the train to the river and got the boat to the Grand Palace for a look around, you have to cover your knees and shoulders whilst here, it's 32 degrees and I've got a cardigan on!!!!! Then off to Khao San Road (the main tourist area) to give Dan his first experience of Bangkok! He was offered countless tuk tuk rides and suits. He also saw his first lady boy of the trip (quite an obvious one). Then back to the hotel via the boat.
Today we caught the boat to see the giant reclining Buddha which was massive, it's 46 meters long and huge!!
Then we thought we would go to the barge museum which was on the boat tour, we followed the rather simple instructions in the book and after walking for ages decided to give up looking for it as we seemed to be the only western people in a rather poor area (not good). We caught the boat back to Khao San Road for some food and shopping.
The police turned up and all the annoying tuk tuk drivers disappeared, the music stopped and the shopping stalls receded onto the pavement. We wondered what was going to happen (a little scary) then we realised it was a game between the locals and the police, because as soon as the police left everything went back to normal.
It was then back to the hotel to pack up ready to move onto Koh Samui.
We will put pics on as soon as I can get to a computer.
