Hi all, we flew to Koh Samui from Bangkok it was quite a small plane but an ok flight except the flight attendent obviously didnt think so as she vom'ed when we landed!!!! Nice. We checked into our hostel which was not quite as glam as our previous hotel but we survived and had a few chilled out days on the beautiful beach before heading to Koh Tao.
We got the boat over (the only option bar a long swim) to Bans a dive centre with a good reputation and a free taxi from the pier!!! By taxi i mean sitting in the back of a pick up truck with 7 other people and 12 peoples luggage!! Anything goes in Thailand. Dan started his open water scuba diving course within an hour of us being there and I was left to my own devices! (bored after an hour on my own)
The next day was up and off to scuba school for his first tests and learning the basics ready to get going in the swimming pool after lunch. After a ropey first nights accomodation we upgraded so I had a view of the pool from my balcony so I could watch him practice. Although I was bored again so decided to sign up to do my refresher course and 2 "fun" dives the next day.
Dan was up and out earlish again for his third day at scuba school while Ill started my refresher and got ready for my dives in the afternoon. We both headed out to sea after lunch on seperate boats. My dive guide called mark kicked me out the sea because I couldnt equalise my ears so I got back on the boat and didnt attempt my second dive, I couldnt face the humilitation that he might kick me out again. I have now retired from scuba diving. Dan got on better on his first sea dives he had a few problems on his second but got through it and went back the next day to complete his open water course. He can now dive to 18 metres.
We are now in Phuket for the night beofre headin to Koh Phi Phi tomorrow.
