We arrived in Cairns yesterday, picked up our car (a Hyundai Accent) and drove to Port Douglas. Not too much of a challenge driving on the "wrong" side of the road, but the traffic is not very heavy. Today we drove to Cape Tribulation, crossing the Daintree River by ferry and visited the Daintree Discovery Centre. The aerial walkway, tower over the canopy and audio tour were well done giving us a good view and commentary on the Queensland rain forest, which is older than the Amazon Rain Forest. Since we did not spot a Cassowary in the wild, we stopped at a wildlife centre to see one. We concluded our touring with a walk to the Mossman Gorge and a view of the 4 Mile Beach in Port Douglas. We are in the rain forest and it is the start of the rainy season -- so it rains !! Both yesterday and today the rain came in bursts periodically after 3 pm. If the rain continues to hold off until 3 pm, our touring won't be impacted too much.
