We spent most of the day exploring the Gold Coast south of Brisbane and its continuation into New South Wales around Byron Bay and Lennox Head. Great Beaches throughout the whole area. The Gold Coast is quite developed ranging from high rises in Surfers's Paradise to low rise motels, resorts and vacation apartments in other areas. We would probably choose Coolongata -- less "Waikiki" but still with plenty of services. The beaches around Byron Bay and Lennox Head in NSW are perhaps even better than on the Gold Coast in Queensland. Lennox Head has the best surfing beach. The surf wasn't too impressive, but this is the wrong time of the year -- May is the height of the surfing season. Leaving the coast, we headed back inland from Ballina to Lismore in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range. Gorgeous valley around Lismore but we couldn't get a photo (no road pullovers and fairly steady traffic). The 200 km. drive from the coast to Tenterfield was scenic, through hills and valleys with plenty of rich agriculture, particularly the first 60 kms from the coast. I am adding a few photos today - two at the end of the Queensland album and several from a new album entitled New South Wales.
