Day 24: 24/1/13
Today we drove past Mt Cook and the lake near it again. It's gorgeous there as the water is really, really blue due to being formed by a glacier. We drove to Lake Tekapo then which was also really blue and we stopped at a little church overlooking the lake for photos. They also had a statue of a dog in memory of all the working dogs in the area needed for farming. The church was tiny but had a clear glass window behind the altar looking out over the lake.
We drove on then to a town called Geraldine! No less! There was a shop there with the biggest jumper in the world hanging on the wall so we had to take a photo of that! We just had time then to go to the supermarket to get stuff for dinner and then back on the bus again!
Some people were going rafting or horse-riding today. I thought about the rafting but I chickened out yesterday when you had to sign up for it! It's raining and cloudy today anyway so doesn't look great!
We got to the hostel anyway, which was in the middle of nowhere! There were supposedly nice walks around but it was raining so there was no chance of walking. They had free tea and coffee and a good DVD selection so we had a very lazy day! We watched Top Gun, Bucket List and Bruno. We did go for a short ten minute walk when the rain stopped to wake us up a bit! We also cooked sweet and sour chicken an the hostel owners had left a chocolate fudge cake for us- we were spoiled!!
