Day 1: 1/7/12 Well we got to Lima!!
Last night had to sleep on the terminal chairs and in the middle of the night we were all hooshed into one area n then at 4 in d morn we were all marched back again! So not an awful lot of sleep!
Checked in fine in d morn n got to Madrid no hassle-actually slept on dat flight! In Madrid airport there seemed to b noone round to help ya (heathrow they were everywhere!) so I headed for the gate n happened to meet the check in desk. So it was grand! Never had to go through security in Madrid, which I thought was strange!
The flight was nearly an hour late leaving Madrid cos there was a failure wit d satellite equipment. I don't think it was a good idea for the captain to use the word failure!! Once we took off, it was grand- fairly non-eventful, exactly what u want in a flight! It was v boring though- films were v poor. 'salmon fishing in temen' was the highlight!! Apart from a bit of a nose bleed I passed the time okay, even tho it was really long!!!
Flew thru immigration, baggage, customs n the arrivals area was full of people! Lots of happy reunions! Myself n muireann were delighted to meet up after our long flights on our own.
There was supposed to b someone from the hostel collecting us but they were a no-show so we got a taxi instead! He was v helpful but there was lots of crazy driving- beeping, changing lanes, people pulling out in front of each other- jus my kind of driving!!
Finally got to d hostel. Backpackers family house. On d outside there is jus a door in d wall so I was wondering what kind of a place it was gonna be but it's grand. Jus the basics really. We have a room to ourselves n it's clean, so can't complain. It's already dark n even tho the shops t supposed to b close, we can't see anything nearby so were goin to bed n gonna go to d shop in d daylight! The owner is v helpful n has given us a map of d area n told us some places to see. So we have plenty of walking ahead of us tomorrow!!
