Day 45: 14/8/12
Went to the Argentinian side of the falls today. We had to get the passport stamped again- I'm crossing back and over borders a lot these days!
First we got a train to the first walk way- it was like been in Disneyland on the little train! It's kinda jungly around the falls so all we saw was trees! The walkway brought us right up close to the falls which was cool. It was really windy and wet though which is why the hair is standing on top of my head in that photo! Today you could really see how powerful the water is. It was so loud and so strong! Really really impressive!!
Then we walked a little through different trails and over little bridges to get another view of the falls. This was further away than the first one but you could get good photos.
Then we went for lunch, which just consisted of a roll. Grand to be able to sit with Irish people though!!
Then we went for a boat trip. We went on a jeep first for a supposed safari through the jungle but really it was just to bring us to the boat!! The boat was big enough for sixty people do was big enough, but it was a speed boat (we had life jackets!!). We sped off down the river and a few times had to tilt to one side as there were some rapids! We got close to the falls then and we could take some photos. It was cool cos we were really close and there was a rainbow right beside is so it looked class! Then we all had waterproof bags and we had to put everything inside them and they drove us right up close to them. We got absolutely soaked- there were puddles running off me! (we all had a change of clothes so it was grand!!) It felt like we were right underneath the water falling but I don't think we were. We saw another boat going in and they just went near the edge of the spray. It's reall strong though and fairly cold! I was trying to look up at the waterfall but I couldn't see much with the water belting into my eyes!! It was cool to be so close to the falls though! I got a DVD of the boat trip!
We walked for ages then to get back to the bus- the park must be huge! Then crossed the border again to get back to the hotel!
Dossed for a while watching friends on the telly. Then mam and dad skyped- they hadn't much news! Warnings of a storm at home I hear- hope ye have all battened down the hatches!! While I was on Skype the phone was low on battery so I leaned over the locker to plug it in. I had had a chocolate bar earlier and the wrapper was on the locker. There was also a few unwanted guests as there was a whole army of ants marching off to the corner of the room with some crumbs of chocolate!! I had an interesting few moments trying I commit a massacre!!
Then I went for dinner with the two Irish girls- the guy was sick all day so he didn't go. We went to a buffet next door to the hotel. It's all buffets around here. They have potatoes and rice and veg and salad at the counter and you can take as much as you want and then guys walk around with lots of meat on skewers and they'll slice off a load for ya. There was normal beef and chicken and pork. Also some strange stuff- we didn't know what they were saying. One they were calling chickens heart, another rabbit!! The rabbit was lovely- whether it was rabbit or not I don't know!!!
Chatted to Sandra and Linda for a good while then- lots of teacher talk!! It's great to be able to talk to people that know what and where you ate talking about, as well as having the same sense of irish humour! They are going to buenos Aires tomorrow aswell but a different flight and a different group. But we may run into each other! They had been in Oz before South Amerca and had 30 dollars left so they gave it to me which was really kind of them. Ill owe them a drink in mullingar sometime!
