Good morning! Well, we thought that we would keep on top of our blogs from now on...so here is what we've been up to the last couple of days . . .
Franz Josef - one of the bigger glaciers in new zealand (the other one being Fox glacier - home of the fox's glacier mints!). Today was probably one of the most exhausting things either of us have ever done - after kitting ourselves up with hiking boots, clampons, gortex jackets, hats and gloves we hiked for MILES and MILES to the glacier and then spent the whole day walking though massive cracks in the ice. Some of them being so narrow that even we had to squeeze though the ice side-ways. All the way we were following our guide 'Carlos' who weilded a pick axe when ever the ice got too treacherous and chipped out steps in the ice for us. By the time we got back in the evening we were absolutely exhaused - but the views were absolutely incredible. Really quite surreal to walk on a huge block of ice...
The next day was fairly boring really, had an epic coach ride from Franz josef all the way to Wanaka where we stopped to see various mountain views and waterfalls. Oh yea, and we jumped out a plane . One word - AWESOME!! (ps. none of you will be seeing our DVDs cos they are atrocious so don't bother asking)
NExt day, off to queenstown!! Another long trip in the coach today unfortunatly. But this time we stopped at this random little place called Puzzling World. Very hard to put in to words all the crazy illusions that we saw there, but one thing i would say is that I don't think either of us appreciated being stuck in the middle of a 2 storey maze at 9.30 in the morning.
We decided to opt out the bungy jumping today after our adrenaline fix yesterday was quite enough for this week....and both of us have been avoiding our bank balances for quite a while... But Rhian is quite tempted to throw herself off in to a canyon in OZ...so watch this space?!?!
Queenstown is a great place. The sun hasn't stopped shining since we got here so we're about to go to the beach with some friends and work on our tan before we jet off to melbourne next tuesday. Both of us would have loved to stay longer here...but as it happens we're sharing a dorm with a bunch of adolescent guys....and everything that that entails....
Until next time - (and in the words of our driver 'Jerky Berky')
Sweet as, Wicked, Awesome
PPS. Rhian visited the BEST burger place last night. "Ferger Burger". Honest to god, their burgers would rival anything that "Ali's, Gardies, Trailer of Life, Chick-o-land" could throw out at you at 3.30 in the morning. YUM. (Mum, it was only once. Promise i won't eat anymore junk in new zealand.)
