10th January -
I got up early and the girls were still asleep so I called home for a catch up with the folks as it had been a while since we had spoken. It was a really cloudy day so our planned day on the beach was ruined! When the girls got up, we did our very overdue washing and then headed to the town to grab some lunch. I had an infected thumb so I had booked ANOTHER doctors appointment so we went and I got some more antibiotics off the doctor. Afterwards, we went for a walk along the sandy beach to a lookout where we watched the surfers catch the waves. We later learned that this spot was the most easterly point in Australia. We had aimed to go up to the lighthouse, but it started raining so we headed back to the hostel to save our clothes on the washing line.
For dinner, we headed back to Cheeky Monkeys again then we went back to pack our bags once again ready to leave Byron Bay in the morning.
11th January -
We checked out of our hostel and waited around for the minibus to take us to a bus stop to continue our travel up the East Coast to Surfers Paradise. Whilst we were waiting, someone came up to us to tell us there was a python in the hostels garden. We got so excited and went to check it out. It had just eaten a chicken so it wasn't moving. The fatty! After that, I was so glad we were checking out that day!!
We got on our bus to Surfers Paradise which was only a few hours away. We were only staying the one night so we had limited time there. We found our hostel which looked amazing! It had a pool with sunbeds and an onsite bar. We dropped off our bags and headed to the beach. It was 3pm so we could still catch some sun for a few hours. When we were walking to the beach, a guy asked us what we were doing tonight. We shouldn't of stopped! He was selling tickets for a club crawl that night. For the next hour, he tried selling us tickets. We didn't know what to do as we wanted to go out for drinks but not pay that much money to do it. Even though it did look really cool! After lots of debating we decided to do it. However it was already 4pm and we had to be at a bar for 5.30pm!
So we bought some beers and headed back to our dorm to get ready, pronto! We headed to the bar about 6ish. We had a feeling that there would be more guys than girls, which there were. But that's nothing out of the ordinary. We got on a party boat down the river for 2.5 hours. The guy who sold us the ticket said we get 5 free drinks on the club crawl but he lied - as they were only shots! That really pissed us off so we went back for another free shot! They also told us that dinner would be on the boat, but it was only a few nibbles and dominos pizza if you were lucky to get some. Thankfully, I was one of those lucky ones. I was certainly not going to miss out on a dominos!! On the boat we met a couple of guys from New Zealand who had moved to Surfers Paradise. When we got off the boat and headed to the next bar sneaked off and got some shots from a bottle shop.
We joined the club crawl at the next bar which was a live music venue. The last stop was a club called Blush which was pretty awful but we still had fun! When the club died down we headed to another club with the New Zealand guys called Club Liv. It was what I imagined a Miami club to be like. In fact, a lot of people had told us that Surfers Paradise was like an Australian Miami.
