Today we woke up to a beautiful, sunny day for our Architectural River cruise. The weather couldn't have been better. We made our way to the Navy Pier to catch the first cruise at 10:00 am. Unfortunately, we just missed it so we explored the pier for a while and planned our day. The cruise was great. We saw the city from a whole new perspective. We learned about the Tribune Tower, Wrigley Building, Trump Tower, Marina City and more than 40 other Chicago landmarks. And we learned that Daisy, Mrs O'Learys cow, did not knock over a lantern that supposedly caused the great Chicago fire of Oct 8, 1871. They don't know how it started but Daisy the cow has formally been exonerated. The bot had a bar so we decided to grab a drink and enjoy the sunshine. No sooner had we taken a sip than Valerie was stung by a wasp right below her left eye. She only lost a bit of her beer but suffered for the rest of the day. She looked like she had gone 9 rounds with Ali. But she's a troppoper and we carried on with our plans. After the cruise we decided to ride the Centennial Wheel, a huge Ferris wheel on Navy Pier. Centennial Wheel has over 10,000 bolts and 42 gondolas (1 has glass bottom). The original ferris wheel at the worlds fair of 1893 was 264 feet tall and was built to rival the spectacle of the Eiffel Tower. Navy Pier is 102 yrs old, is on 50 acres and is 3300 feet long. Many movies have been filmed here including Divergent and the Dark Knight. We spent about 2 hours on the Pier and then strolled along Riverwalk and eventually went for lunch at Michael Jordan's steakhouse. Then it was off to Millennium Park to see the Cloud Gate and then to see the Buckingham Fountain. I looked and looked and asked several people where the Route 66 sign was but no one knew. We saw at least 5 weddings during the day. And there were also groups of young girls dressed as if they were getting married but were obviously much too young. We couldn't figure out what that was about. It was late so we made our way back to the hotel to rest and recover from sore feet and wasp stings. Valerie couldn't join u for dinner as she had a raging headache and her eye was quite swollen. Jo & I went to a nice Italian restaurant and had a delicious meal which we both left a lot of. Jo felt guilty so asked for a doggie bag which went into our frig and stayed there. After dinner we went to Valerie's room and had a glass of wine and made fun of her. The. It was off to bed to rest up for our last day.
