Hi Everyone Sorry it has taken us so long to update the website!
Well its now the 11th October....Can't Believe Me and Chezney have been away for a whole month! Hope you aren't missing us too much!!
Here is what we've been up to over the last week since we were in Nhs Trang;
So last Monday (2nd Oct) we went to the mud spar for the day. We
first got to shower in hot mineral water then we had a mud bath. We were
given plastic pans to pour mud on each other. We had it everywhere! In our
hair, faces and eyes! It is meant to cure lots of illnesses so we just
slapped it on! We than sat in the sun for 10mins to allow the mud to dry. We
then washed it off in the mineral showers before we got into a mineral water
bath which was very very hot! We both got a bit light headed after we came
out, so had to take 5! We then spent the rest of the afternoon by the 38oC
pool. Boy was it hot! It was cooler to sit in the sun. In the evening we
went into Nha Trang town for tea and ended up seeing the guy from Denmark
who we shared a room with in Hong Kong. Small world!
Tuesday we decided to spend the day at the beach but it bloody rained so the
tan didn't improve. So sat under the umbrella and read our books! Sneer got a lip wax, for the total sum of 1.50 - bargain!!!!
Wednesday we took a long very hot and sweaty walk up to the Long Son Pagoda
and a giant seated Buddha. 2 guys who live in the school came up and were
talking to us, informing us about the history of the place and the monks who
lived there. They were really friendly. BUT this was all to change when we
politely declined to buy any postcards off them. They became really rude,
and told us we were bad people and that we are going to go to hell. So
that's more people off our xmas card list!
Thursday: Today we got the bus to Delat. It took 6.5 hours. We had to travel
through some of the worst rain ever, some of the streets were
above knee level of water. The locals were still trying to cycle and motor
through it!!! The bus came along and wiped out an old lady and her food
stall which was at the side of the road. The journey was more like a roller
coaster as we weaved in and out and round some of the tightest bends up a
massive hill. When we arrived in Dalat we found our backpacks had got wet
due to being under the water level when it rained.
Friday: We went for a long walk round the lake and then took a trip on the cog railway to the next little town to visit some pagodas. When we got back we walked some more
before we got stopped by 2 local girls who were at uni studying English.
They asked if they could talk to us to improve their conversional skills.
Their English was really really good. We decided to
treat ourselves to a facial at a place across from our hotel. The facial was
ok, except for the absolute crap music the salon was playing. I mean you
cant exactly relax to "who let the dogs out" and "the bloody crazy frog!".
Went for tea but home early as we had to pack.
Saturday: Got the bus at 8am to Saigon arrived at 3.30pm! It was raining,
but we learnt from the last lesson to cover our backpacks. Arrived with a
dry bag!
As we hadn't pre-booked any hotel we decided to check some out from the
local guides who get you as soon as you get off the bus. We looked at a
couple of hotels but the rooms were crappy. The guide has as up and down 5
floors, round the streets, back and forth all in the rain before we saw
somewhere which we liked. But after checking in they moved us to another
room as they said it was already booked for the night. The new room looked
the same but it smelt so bad, so we moved back to the
nice room the following morning!
Saturday evening we went for tea and then a few drinks, ended up talking to
2 guys who were both traveling alone who were from London. One of them could
talk for England! He never shut up!
Sunday: Picked up our nice clean smelling laundry! Explored Saigon and went
food shopping. Went to the local market which is the biggest in Vietnam
(well defo Saigon anyway.) It just goes on and on and on! Saigon is very
western in style, it has lots of shops and many many more motorbikes! You
would have thought it was the capital of Vietnam but it isn't. We have had
some near death experiences trying to cross the roads.
Monday: We went to the war
museum today, this place was a real eye opener. It is mostly filled with
photographs taken by various journalists during the war. Some brought a tear
to your eye. Pictures of murdered women, children and even babies. They
showed pictures of the after affects of the chemical bombs. Disabled
children. They even had dead newborn babies in jars. You got to see the
different torture techniques used and the 'tiger cages' which the prisoners
were held in. You just walk round trying to comprehend the suffering that
the people went through. Its amazing to think the war was only 40 odd years
ago. Vietnam is such a beautiful country, they have worked so hard to turn
the devastation round into something positive in such a short space of time.
Plus the local people don't seem to hold any visible grudge towards America
or any of the other nations involved in the war.
We left the museum and went for a walk round the more modern Saigon with its
large department stores.
Tuesday:Today we visit a temple and the Chi Chi tunnels, this is
where the locals lived underground during the war. The temple was absolutly amazing, it was so bright and colourful inside and out. After lunch we went to the tunnels, which was where we looked at some of the ways in which the Vietcom used to hide during the war, they built tunnels which went down about 9m intotal, people used to live down there for months at a time, and went bombs usually went off they would destro the first one sometimes two levels killing and injuring hundreds. We went down one of the first level tunnels which was about 30m in length and it was really narrow and claustrophobic and scary well for me! Noway would i have survived more than a couple of days in one of those things!!! I'd be a goner thats for sure! When we returned back to Saigon we went for some tea and chilled out.
Today we have terrible rain and thunder so probably wont be up to too much!
Tomorrow we are going on a 3 day 2 night trip up the Mekong Delta river and
into Cambodia. We arrive in Cambodia on Saturday.
Sorry about the lack of pics on the website, it seems to take forever for us to download them onto the site, but we'll get it sorted soon!
