Phewy for Hue
We had left the brilliant Halong Bay trip behind us as we boarded the bus for 17 hours of driving and a lot of beeping all the way to Hue. We had booked a hotel just for one night to get a nights kip before we headed further south.
The sleeper bus was hilarious, a single decker bus but open to the roof as a double decker would be with the narrowest bunk beds we have ever seen. If you happen to be taller or wider than Liz then you are destined for one of the most uncomfortable nights sleep you will have ever experienced. Having said that I wasn't as bad off as the guy from the UK who had been playing rugby in Auckland and was about 17 stone and 6 ft 4 inches. He did make me feel better despite having the bed that was at a permanent incline and no cushion. The way these guys drive is pretty crazy, not slowing for bumps in the road and beeping like mo fo's at anything in their path. Anyway, we made it and checked in to a lovely and friendly little hotel - air con included!
We had a stroll around Hue, the usual offers of Vietnam's equivalent of tuk tuk's on every corner offering the best deal to take us around the full citadel surrounds but as usual our budget conscious selves opted for the walk.
We walked around and enjoyed the sights and the views from the citadel and again took alot of photos. On the way out we purchased an ice cream each which was enjoyable until I smelt it and it was durian (the most disgusting smelling fruit in the world -smells like drains). I kindly handed mine to Liz and she ate them both but the sharing girl she is gave me the cone to eat!
Hue, pretty cool as a stop off but we are looking forward to Hoi An and the prospect of some new fitted clothes from the tailor.
