Hi guys, now in Peru, here our lastest edition to the story so far!!!
After leaving Baños after the last blog we missed our stop on the bus ride back to the hostel and ended up getting a lift back three miles with a local man after some broken spanish negotiations on price !!!
We arrived back in time for home made Pizzas, the first cook group meal...delicious !!
A great evening chilling with crew and playing a few games.
25/5/9 Rio Verde
We spent this morning walking along a trek path to find 5 waterfalls. Bit of an adventure through forest and across streams. Following that we walked to the Pailon Del Diablo which is a huge waterfall near to the hostel . It is supposed to be one of the biggest waterfalls in the world. We got soaked climbing behind it..check the photos !
As soon as we got back to the hostel we were taken to the bridge for the bridge swing with two of the others who were brave enough..we were harnessed to a bungy rope and jumped backwards from a platform over an 80 foot drop ! We are still alive Mums but
Phil had his nuts crushed so no grand children.....sorry !
We arrived back to the hostel and had a fantastic meat fest barbecue with another overland company, Dragoman. We were going to book with them but glad we didn´t as their truck is ¨s***e¨ quote from Phil !!
26/5/9 Rio verde to 1st bush camp
Not much to report from today as spent all day in the truck except for a couple of hours in Baños in the morning restocking . En route to the overnight stop saw the Tungurahua Volcano erupt which is the most active volcano in South America.
The drive took us through some high Andean passes where it was quite cold and the altitude affected breathing.
Stopped at a bush camp ( no facilities except a shovel !!!)
27/5/9 Bush Camp to Mancora, Peru
Up at 5.30 to get on the road to the Peruvian border. Another long truck day, Phil played cards with the boys but he kept losing and had to drink shots of Rum (was he deliberately losing ?)
All safely through the first border crossing of our trip, Liz hasn´t lost her passport yet !
Our first stop in Peru is a beach camp at Punta Sal near Mancora. Had a fire on the beach first night , played cards and sand really does get everywhere !!!
Phil ate his third fish !!!!! He is a convert. No I m not!!! MEAT
28/5/9 Punta Sal beach camp
Wake early to the sound of several of the lads who had stayed up all night and had had a bottle of rum for breakfast ! Phil feels old as he cant keep up anymore!!! STELLA
Went into Mancora to shop at the local markets for a pig roast and punch party.
We stayed in town after the others had gone back to look around and get lunch. We travelled back in style in a Tuk Tuk, the vibrations put a broad smile on Liz´s face, much better than the washing machine!!!!
Chilled out for the evening with a Pig and Chicken roast on the beach ...its a hard life but someone has to do it..glad its us !!!
Off for more beer and chilling on the beach.
Thanks all for emails and messages we will have a drink for you Andy and Craig don´t work too hard !
