We Arrived at Sydney Airport in the morning and were transferred to the Central YHA hostel. I was in a room with 2 other girls in my Bunac group. We had a little wonder round the immediate area and then slept! (i needed it!) In the evening we went down to Scubar for a few drinks and more get to know you stuff. I won a T-shirt in the famous crab racing at Scubar. First of many freebies on my trip!
On Tuesday we had an IEP orientation for most of the day. Boring talk because the info didnt really apply to me, more work and accommodation in Sydney orientated. But it was good to use the computers there fore free and get a YHA membership card. They also helped me set up my Australian sim card.
On Wedesday we had to checkout of the YHA and booked into Wake Up! just round the corner. I really liked wake up! and i was in a room with 3 other girls from my group and 4 random people. All our room mates were really nice and we had such a laugh. In the Evening there was an IEP social down in Sidebar below wake up!. It was good to meet other bunac people who weren't in my group. I met a girl called Emily and her mates who came a few weeks before i did. I had a really good night and ended up planning to go to the beach the next day with the new people I had met.
The whole of Thursday was spent at the beach. I got a train to Cronulla beach with Emily and her group. It took about an hour but once we got to the beach was definatly worth it. The water was warm enough to stay in for a good hour. We found a place that did $6 pasta and then got some drink and sat on the beach when the sun went down. Stayed there listening to music until 11 when we had to run for the train. I had a really good day and the weather was hot and sunny!
The next few days i spent just getting my bearings and having a good time in Sydney. I met a few people here and there who had done the OzExperience and reccommended it so i went ahead and booked it.
On Monday 6th there was a public bank holiday and i decided to walk down to the harbour becuase it was a nice day. It was amazing to see the Bridge and Opera house for the first time. I got some good photos and walked back to the hostel via Darling harbour.
On Wednesday Fiona and I used our free vouchers for the Aquarium, was really cool and then went for a few drinks in Darling Harbour with Fiona, Maggie and Patrick.
Friday 10th was by far the busiest day. Fiona and I went up the sky tower and got some great views of the city. We then had a simulator ride about Australia, it was directed at children really but we still enjoyed it! Haha. We Had some Lunch then went to the harbour and booked onto a cruise. We were on a massive boat and the cruise got us some great views of the bridge and opera house. We got the train back to the hostel and then went down to Scubar for mine and Rachel's last night in Sydney. I had to kept popping up to my room to pack my bag every now and again.
I thought Sydney was a great city but I think 2 weeks was too long to spend there and the weather was a bit variable! I am looking forward to going back there for Christmas though.
