Today I decided to continue to explore Brisbane & try narrow down where I might live.
Several people had suggested Fortitude Valley might be a nice place to live so I thought I might check it out. After looking it up in the Brisbane City guide it turns out I already live in Fortitude Valley (I thought it was the CBD but turns out the CBD is really only 2 blocks! Brisbane really is a small city!)
So I headed to the chinatown part of the Valley and there were some nice apartment blocks around there, and some less nice looking ones. Using my city guide I wandered to the streets which were described as cosmopolitan, checking out the bars, restaurants & shops on the way. I then walked onto the next suburb New Farm, this seemed more up market and had some very nice riverside apartments with infinity pools, but given the way the value of the pound is plummeting they're out of my price range.
By this stage I'd walked around 14km. Added to the 12km I walked yesterday on the Gold Coast I was starting to feel weary & because of the curve of the river it was still around 3-4km to get home....but then I spotted a boat! Of course! I could get a boat home because unlike London the boat bus (or citycat as its called here) runs at weekends too! So instead of a long walk I had a nice peaceful journey back to the apartment, and unlike London it was only around $3 (£1.50, around a fifth of what it used to cost to get the boat from Wandsworth to Vauxhall)
I headed back to the apartment & decided to check out the pool & spa before making pasta, doing some ironing & heading to bed ready for another week at work
