This morning started with a divisional team meeting with the new Deputy Director General (The DG is equivalent to our Perm Sec or Sir Humphry for non civil servants)
He did a bit of a getting to know each other - turns out some of my colleagues are former Olympians themselves - inc Chris Rawlinson who was from Sheffield & represented Team GB in Sydney, Athens & previous com games. (Plus I also learnt this week that members of the Legacy Advisory Committee, which I now do secretariat for, are also former Olympians and are not just the owner of the local swimming school as his job title on the ToR would suggest for example!) At the meeting we also had a session with Brad Thorn, a famous & cup winning rugby player - not being a rugby fan it's clearly all wasted on me but he did share some interesting experiences around leadership styles, hierarchys & team work
I left around 11.30 as I had a half day to go to Sydney for the weekend. Originally this was going to be a girly weekend of shopping, drinking, eating at Jason Athertons Sydney restaurant etc. However Pam had failed to tell me it was the City to Surf run & I was running it!! Those who know me know how I don't love running! I've never even done a 5k let alone a 14k run! A stretch of which is called Heartbreak Hill!!
I arrived in Sydney around 2.30 & got to circular quay around 3.15. From there there are fabulous views of the Harbour Bridge & you can walk round to the Opera House. I met Pam for a glass of fizz at the Opera bar before moving onto a bar in the Rocks to watch the sun set over the Opera House
