So Wednesday 31st August soon came round as it was time for the start of our year trip around the world! As we had to leave at 3am we didnt sleep the night before hoping to get some sleep on our long flight to Peru.
So after our 14 hour flight, we landed in Lima at about 6pm, grabbed our bags and just wanted to get to the Che Lagarto Hostel where we were staying as we were very tired. Got outside the Airport and got a cab straight away which was lucky, not knowing that it was probably the scariest time of our lives as the cab driver was a MENTAL driver. He was showing me a map on where to go not keeping he's eyes on the road going about 50 mph, swerving in and out of cars, flashing them to move out the way, bibbing them, never seen Matt look so scared.
Eventually arrived at our Hostel that didnt look to good from the outside, got in the door and thought to ourselves that it could be worse as it had a pool table, free WiFi, laundrette, bar, breakfast included. We got in our room which we were sharing with 5 others, threw our bags down and went for a little walk around the street to see what was about. it was quite run down and little to do. So we headed back, had a shower and went to straight to bed for some much deserved sleep.
The next morning we got up to a cloudy, wet and miserable day thinking it was going to be hot, but then realised it was winter here and all we had was shorts and t-shirts. Not a good start. We had some toast before we heading out for another walk. We walked a different way hoping to see something better than what we had already seen and we did, noticed a few shops we recognised like KFC, Mcdonalds, Pizza Hut, Burger King, plus it was alot nicer up this end.
As we were walking round we noticed a little Travel Agent in The Mall which we popped in hoping the women could speak english because not alot of people did. She did a little, so we asked her about getting to Cusco (where the Inca Trail started) and there was either a plane that took an hour and cost about $330 (£200) or a 21 hour coach ride straight for $63 (£38), so we looked at the brochure and the seats looked really comfy on the coach, plus you get breakfast, lunch and dinner so we decided to do that for the next day.
We were hungry again so we found a stall that was selling these really nice fresh chicken rolls, so Matt asked for one which ended up being really hard because the women didnt have a clue what we was talking about. Matt even starting using he's arms acting like a chicken which was hilarious but still no luck so we left it. We walked further down the road and a huge bloke came out this restraunt that spoke english and welcomed us in, plus the food looked quite nice. I had spagetti bolognase and Matt had chicken and chips which both was nice for $10 (£6) for both. As we were heading back to the Hostel a man approached us saying "Sexy ladies out tonight, big tit's, big arse and beautiful fannies" as he was saying it he was doing the movements aswell which was funny. We knew straight away he meant prostitutes. So we had a little think if we should do it or not haha, only joking!
After taking some pictures we headed back to the Hostel, played a bit of pool and tried out our Netbook (mini laptop) Skyping our parents to see what it was like as we hadnt tried the webcam out yet, it ended up to be really good and think our parents were glad we got in touch.
Later in the afternoon about 5pm we went for a walk back upto the town as we noticed a cinema earlier to see if the films were shown in english, they were which was good so struggling again to ask for the film we wanted which was Crazy, Stupid, Love. Quite a good film.
About 7pm when we got out the cinema both feeling tired again due to the Jetlag, so Matty quickly got Burger King, soon after we nipped over to Starbucks to get a hot drink as it was chilly out. Matt got a hot chocolate and I got a skinny vanilla latte which went down a treat.
We then both went back to the Hostel for a quick shower and bed about 8.30pm ready for our 21 hour coach ride tomorrow. Next stop Cusco...
