So we arrived at Cruz Del Sur Coach Station where our 21 hour drive across Peru to Cusco started. When we turned up and saw the coaches, we thought this might not be too bad. As we got on the coach in the luxery suite where we were seated, there was thick padded leather chairs, (see pics) loads of room, you could lean back when you wanted to sleep and plus had WiFi if you wanted to use your laptop, they had a TV in front of us which showed " The A Team, The Hangover and Just Go With It" which were all good films so that was good so that made time go abit quicker. The only awkward part of the journey was getting to sleep as the coach was swerving around the corners, and going to the toilet was a struggle aswell, plus Matt fell out the toilet when the coach went round the corner which was hilarious.
As we approached the Cruz Del Sur Coach Station in Cusco, the view of the town and streets didn't look to good, abit run down like Lima but alot worse. After collecting our bags a women approached us asking if we needed a Hostel which was helpful so we obliged. Got in a cab and went to the Hostel which looked quite nice from the brochure which the women gave us. So we got in our room which had a double bed which Matt called straight away and a single bed for me, plus an ensuite which was good, the room cost about $35 (£21) for the night.
We threw our bags down and headed to check the town out and grab something to eat. The town seemed very busy but very poor. We found a little Cafe which seemed quite nice, well the waitress was anyway so that done it for me, absolute treacle.... The food was ok, nothing great. After that we carried on walking and noticed that there was bakery after bakery after bakery so for a treat we got a cake each. Matt was being greedy and got an ice cream aswell.
It was about 12pm at this point and decided to head back to the Hostel for a shower, plus find out about the Inca Trail. As we got back the receptionist at the Hostel gave us some info about the Inca`s. For a 2 day trip visiting some tourist attractions such as Machu Picchu (Inca Trail) and Sacred Valley by car and train which cost $200pp (£123), we thought this price was quite steep, but we still done as we didn't fancy the proper Inca Trail which was 4 days 3 nights, plus we would have to wait about 2 months as it was fully booked and the one we booked started the next morning.
After our shower we headed downstairs to give the women at reception a little bit of washing like skiddy boxers and a few t-shirts. As she knew we was going on the trip tomorrow she gave us some Coca leaves in boiling water (basically Coca Tea) to help with the breathing when we go to Machu Picchu because of the altertude!
The next stop with be Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu...READ the Machu Picchu blog and then come back to this page for our last day in Cusco below...
06-09-2011 - Cusco continued...
Our last day here was going to be Hectic as we planned it the day before. We had to do postcards, skype, matt wants a haircut, massage, laundry and upload pics and update blog while trying to get a flight to Brazil the next morning. So after breakfast we headed down the town and took a few more pics of the town, had another little internet session while waiting to hear back from STA Travel about our flight to Brazil. We got a few emails saying they had a flight for us which we booked straight away as we have done what we came here to do. Plus we had to try and get our money back on the bus tickets which wasn't meant to pay for at Machu Picchu, thinking it was going to be hard to translate it, it was quite the opposite and she took the money off the room the night before as we still had to pay for it. So then we basically got all packed up, went for our 1 hour full body massage for £3, which we found really nerve racking as she took us both down this alley and up some stairs to this little secret room. We thought that as we were getting massaged, people would come in a take our belonging but in the end it was a good massage. We then found this restraunt that we never saw before and went for din dins in there, it was by far the best meal we have had so far, huge portions and only cost us £5 with a beer. Then we walked back to the Hostel and went to bed ready for the long day to brazil as we had to fly back to Lima and wait there for 8 hours before our flight to Rio De Janiero.....
