So our time in Peru was coming to an end as we was now heading to the main place in Brazil, Rio de Janeiro. I got up quite early as I wanted to check everything was in place like tickets etc. After brekky and a quick shower we had ordered a cab for 9.45am to take us to the Cusco Airport for our flight at 12.10pm. When we arrived it was a little confusing as it didn't tell you what counter to check in at, so we asked and was pointed in the right direction. It was good to hear that the women checking us in could check us in right to Rio instead of picking our bags up at Lima and dragging them around for 8 hours before checking back in.
After landing in Lima about 1.20pm we didn't want to stay in the Airport all the time until our flight at 9.50pm so we had a look outside the airport to see of there was a high street, but there weren't. A taxi driver came over and said 'downtown Lima is a good day out,' so we thought as we hadnt been there yet we'll head there. 30 minutes later we arrived in down town Lima which looked quite a bit better than the part of Lima we stayed in. We had a few hours to kill so we had a look around the shops, went cinema, then sat in Mcdonalds with a Mcflurry each uploading pics and updating the blog. The time flew by and it was time to head back to the Airport for our flight to Rio...
We landed in Rio about 6 hours later, retrieved our bags and needed to find a cashpoint in the Airport which we found, but was a bit of a struggle as it was quite hard to read the writing on the screen of the ATM. In the end we found a way to get our money which was good. As we was on the way the taxi driver was pointing and grunting at the attractions such as Christ The Redeemer as we couldn't really understand him but knew what he meant. The City looked alot more updated than Peru but was expected.
After paying the taxi driver he pointed us the direction he thought the Hostel was and we were looking for the numbers on the doors which one our Hostel was. We walked straight past it by quite a along way. At this point we were both knackered as we hadn't had any sleep, plus it was like 6am. We eventually found it, slugging our bags back from where the taxi driver dropped us off.
The Hostel didn't look that great from the outside as it had work being done to it so a lot of scaffolding etc. So after checking in, they showed us around and Matt wasn't to happy that it was a communal shower/toilet, plus our room was tiny (3m length x 2m width) and had 2 bunk beds in. As we was the only people in the room it might not be too bad as we can put our bags on the other beds. Straight after, we brushed our pegs and went straight to bed for a quick nap for a few hours.
About 12pm we got up, had a shower and headed out as it looked really hot outside. Got outside and it was about 83 degrees, so we thought straight to the beach to check it out. As we were sitting over there these 2 little 8 year olds came up to Matt trying to ask for money and started raising he's voice, then Matt stood up, the boys soon backed down as they didnt know he was a giant! We then jumped on a bus to Cocacabana Beach which was really nice as the sun was shining, white sand, football/volleyball pitches and the sea was freezing as we were paddling through across the beach. We got a bit of lunch before trying to find this new Hostel we researched but didn't have any rooms until Sunday as it was fully booked from what the Internet said, not surprised as it had a 98% rating. So we jumped in a taxi and found the Beach Backpackers Hostel, went in and they told us that they haven't got any room until Sunday which we expected, so we had a look around and booked a night for Sunday, hoping it was going to be better than the Hostel we are in.
Until we got into our new Hostel we just chilled out for a few days having a look around the town, couple games of pool and in the evening as our Hostel was quiet we used to watch a DVD on the night time which was nice before we went to bed. After a couple days of this it started to get boring and was wondering why they said Rio was so good as we hadn't seen alot yet. A bloke in our Hostel came over and asked Matt has he been to Koh Samui as he had a jumper on saying it. Matt's responce was 'Im English' (that was our responce to most stuff out here as we couldn't understand no one and they couldnt understand us) which I found funny because I heard the bloke talking to someone earlier and knew he was Scottish. After laughing I told Matt that he's Scottish and straight away Matt went all enbarrassed and starting laughing, but the bloke was funny and went along with it. We were talking to him and he's Mrs for about 15 minutes on stuff to do here. He told us to go to Ipanema which is a place where a few of bars are and also alot of tourists so maybe some English we could talk to. Plus go to this place called Arcos de Lapa (crazy town) apparently full with bars/clubs and alot of people, which was interesting to find out as we didnt know where to go etc.
That night we was having dinner and a few boys from Guatemala was talking to us and asking if we had been out yet as they could speak a little English, they were very surprised when we told them we hadn't. So they offered us to go out with that night to a little bar around the corner. So after getting ready and 1 litre of beer each me and Matt went out with them but after a few more drinks we all decided to Arcos de Lapa aka crazy town. Jumped on the Metro (underground) and went to Lapa. As we came out the station it didnt seem to loud until we got 5 minutes up the road and WOW, we then understood why it was crazy town! Then one of the lads we were with said, 'You can't come to Rio and not have have a Caipirinha' so we thought ok then, lets have one not knowing what the hell was init. Got to a little stall in a side road that was selling them and watching him make it up, going into the mixer was, lime, ice, loads of sugar then 7 cups of Rum. It was disgusting! We didnt tell the others though, we just stood a little back while walking chucking little bits of it on the floor so it looked like were drinking it. Eventually got into a Electro bar/club which played alot of Portuguese music and a little English. Straight away these 2 Brazilian girls were bent over giving there bums a wiggle which was the best thing ive ever seen, we stood there ages watching them like perv's. After a couple of hours into the night i noticed this girl about my height, pretty, cute body, big boobs, and could also shake her bum bum pretty well. My kind of girl, so i went in for the kill, starting the grinding which was good, then onto the kissing which she wouldn't stop after one. She tried talking to me which wasnt going to happen as she didnt speak a word of English. All i found out was that she is 26 and her name was Paula. The boys that we was with helped translate stuff that she was asking me. She asked me if i wanted to meet her tomorrow at Cocacabana Beach at 3pm and straight away i said 'Of course.' So she gave me her number and email address that i couldnt understand and we all went back to the Hostel as it was about 6am at this point. Not with the girl though, i wish!
The next morning we got up ready to move into our new Hostel, got there and it looked alot better, nice sized kitchen, good Internet, BBQ outside, seating area but then when we got into our room (8 bed dorm) there was people in there already and we were told that we was gonna be in there on ur own, we thought it should be ok. Soon after we went downstairs and went on the Internet but not telling Matt (because he would of took the micky) i was writing sentences down in Portuguese ready to go and meet this girl like the drip i am, Matt found out and found it hilarious that i was even attempting to go. Then i realised that when she answers these questions i aint going to know what she is saying, so i emailed and texted her in Portuguese (that i translated on yahoo.com haha) that there aint no point in me coming because i wont be able to understand you. Didnt get a reply so she obviously crying somewhere! So the rest of the day had a look at the tourist attractions that we were going to visit during this week, went and got some shopping for dinner etc, then hoping to come in and watch a DVD that we bought from a bloke on the side of the road only to find that our Hostel was packed with loads of people. We got told that it would be like that most nights. So we had a talk and had a little walk back to our recent Hostel (Ace Hostels) to see if we could book a night for the following night, which we did and even got our old room back plus the blokes that was in there with us have moved on so it was just me and Matt again. We then went cinema and watched a film called 'Encendious' which i thought was the scary film 'Insidious' but it wasnt, it was a French film which Portuguese subtitles. Obviously we found it funny but the most enbarrassing bit about it was that i snorted accidently really loudly, so the whole cinema could of heard. After we stopped laughing we headed back to the Hostel as we couldnt understand the film. Got back and it was still really busy with people so we thought we had done the right thing moving back to our recent Hostel. We went straight to bed ready to get up in the morning for a haircut, moving back to our recent Hostel and go to the zoo...
