We FINALLY left La Paz, after spending a few more days than planned, mostly due to just not getting up on time for buses! Top tip - never go out until 5.30am partying and drinking when you have to get up at 6.30am for a bus! It sounded like a great idea at the time.......!
When we got to the bus terminal to get to Puno, the lady at the desk told us that there had been a bus strike so we had to go a different route...and pay more money, which is never good! But the way we went didnt even go through where we were told the strike was, so we obviously just got ripped off!! We met two Israeli guys on our bus, who we got chatting to and ended up going to a hostel together. One of the guys birthdays was the next day, so as we werent going to be spending more than one night there, we all went out to a bar and had a few drinks and played a few drinking games, which was good fun! When we were getting ready though, our electricity in our room went....so we were left just out of the shower in our towels....freezing our asses off! We ended up just going to sleep for about an hour whilst the man sorted it out! Finally it was ok and we got ready! It was a really good night but after the bar, we were really hungry so went to the only place that was open, which was a place selling meat on the street, which we never wouldve touched if sobre.....seriously the worst burger we have ever had!! But when youre hungry, youre hungry....
We got about 6 hours sleep and then got up for our 3 hour tour of the floating islands at 9am. It was really good but really strange how they live on these little islands.... The people all wear really bright colours, and the little kids are the cutest things ever! We were shown how they made the islands and just had a look around. Because they are now very touristy, theres a lot of stalls and floating shops which you can buy things from! These islands also have a church, nurseries and schools, which is pretty cool. We managed to visit two islands, and the second one we went to, we went via a boat like in the picture! When we left the first island, all the ladies and the little girl sang to us and then at the end all said the same line, so it was a bit staged, but still nice!
When we got back, we had some food and then quickly dashed to the bus terminal where we got a bus to Arequipa...
