We were in Arequipa for about 4 or 5 days...it´s hard to remember! After all, last week is such a long time ago! We had a really good time here, due to everything! We had pretty nice people in our hostel, and one crazy lady from the hostel who would get you very drunk by playing mega jenga! It was good fun, but she was absolutely mental!!
We arrived in the evening, where we were told that we could order food from Burger King, KFC, Pizza Hut and Dominos....so we obviously obliged to the Peruvian way (ha!) and got some Burger King, but as always, it turned out completely wrong - and not just Alexs as usual! But still, it tasted pretty good...nothing compared to home though! The first night, we ended up just chilling out in the TV room and watching a film which was nice after the bus journey.
The other nights that we were there, we went out and partied in the town with the staff and others from the hostel which was good fun! Lissie felt a bit ill when we were out, so decided to head on home, but as it was dark and we didnt really know what Peruvian money looked like that much, she was given a fake 50 soles note which was a shame! And is still trying to fob it off to people (in clubs and shops etc) but noones having it!!
We took advantage of having the delivery menus in our hostel and literally ordered everything...Alex even craved Pizza Hut one night which was a shock!! But I must admit, it was a pretty damn good pizza!
We also did a city tour with a guy from our hostel which was nice. We visited loads of places including cathedrals and different buildings, and also went to some market which was disgusting! All the meat is just out and dead chickens waiting to be cooked! Theres also a kind of delicacy there which is frog juice! They take a frog from the tank, and then wack it against the wall so its dead, and then take off its meat and shove that in a blender with honey and maca, which is a natural viagra! Sounded, smelt and looked disgusting so we definitely didnt taste that!! It was also warm and greeny, so can you blame us?! We finished the tour with a meal with everyone from the hostel who went which was nice.
We saw in the hostel that you could volunteer for an afternoon at a school near the hostel, which we really wanted to do as we now dont have enough time to volunteer for the month that we were going to, as we´re going to Colombia. So we arranged to do it and then woke up for it, but there was only one man running the whole hostel that morning for some reason so he was panicking about everything, and couldnt actually get hold of the school - said that sometimes they dont actually pick up for 3 days lol - so that was a shame. But we did end up having a BBQ at the hostel that afternoon so it wasnt all bad news!
