We decided to take the 19 hour bus journey to Rurrenabaque instead of a plane, which is 40 minutes, which was the worst decision ever, except for the fact we saved loads of money! The bus was so hot that you had to have the windows open, and so because of that, there was so much dust coming in through the windows that when we got off, we had marks where our clothes were and our eyelashes were so grey! The buses also don´t have toilets so every two hours, we had to stop off to pee in the most disgusting toilets ever! And actually pay for them! The first "toilet" we went in was just a hole in the ground, which we could just about manage, but then it had no doors or walls! So you were literally pissing next to another person, who could see everything! And then to make it even worse, the queue for the loo was right infront of these so called toilets......so everyone would be staring at you!! When Alex was doing her business, the bus decided to just start leaving, so Lissie had to literally run after it and grab the door so that it would stop but the driver still wasnt having any of it and carried on, so she had to hold so tight that it would be there when Alex came back! So we couldve just be deserted in some random little place where the people pay to piss in a hole with no doors and walls....lovely!
When we (finally!) got to Rurrenabaque, it was around 6am and we needed a shower desperately...so we went around random hostels asking if we could cheekily use their showers and luckily, one nice lady actually let us! It wasnt the nicest shower though..there was a cockroach in Lexs shower which is always what you want!, but at least we were kind of clean! After passing some time just on the internet and walking about, we went to go and get on our tour at 9am, where we found out that we were with two girls that we became quite friendly with in La Paz, which was nice to know as we´d be spending 3 days with these people! We got a jeep down the bumpiest road ever for 3 hours, until we arrived for lunch and then to get on our boat to take us to where we were staying. We met our tour guide, Tony, who we fell in love with straight away....and we later found out that he actually had the best eyes ever! We´d be going along in the boat and he´d spot a monkey about a mile away, and it would be hiding! On the way to where we were staying, we saw loads of wildlife including monkeys, who ate bananas on our heads! and also monkeys, turtles, pink dolphins and loads more! When we arrived back to where we were staying, which was a hut type place with a bar attached, we got cleaned up (as much as could do anyway) and then went to a field where loads of people on tours were, to watch sunset, which was really pretty, but there were SO many mosquitos which got bloody annoying after a while! Saying that we got bitten a lot would be an understatement! That night, after dinner - which was amazing, we went looking for alligators in the dark, as their eyes reflect the light off the torch. We saw loads but managed to find a little baby alligator, which Lex held...but Lissie was too much of a wimp!
On the second day, we got up pretty early and went in search of anacondas! We were in river water up to our bums, so the mossies had a great time biting our asses that morning... We finally found one after quite a while of thinking we´d seen stuff - Lissie though a twig was an anaconda....nice one! - and then when someone did see one, we had the chance to hold it, which Lex did but Lissie was once again being a wimp! However she did touch it......lol. After going back and having lunch, we got on our bikinis and went and swam with pink dolphins which was really cool....we have now learnt the dolphin call! Its really cool as they swim and touch your feet, which feels really weird at first, but then you get used to it....one guy got his toe bit because he accidentally kicked one in the head! Oops! That night we just watched sunset again from the bar where we stayed, and played a few card games and had some beer...and then off to bed for an early start again!
On the last day, we went piranha fishing in the morning. Alex managed to actually catch one which was pretty damn goooood but the piranha fell off her rod and into the boat which was pretty scary! She then tried to pick it up without it biting her hands off!, and she finally did...about a year later! Got some good sweaty photos of this mission... Went back for some lunch and then on the way back to get the jeep back to Rurrenabaque, we went for more swimming with dolphins, and got pretty burnt! Bad times....
When we got to Rurrenabaque, we got changed and headed out for some dinner with the other two girls, and then onto Moskitos bar which was pretty good. Played some drinking games, and had a couple of Jungle Juices! Also met this crazy man who we later named Naughty Nige as he´s a bit of a perv! Stayed in Rurrenabaque the next day as we couldnt get a flight that day, but it was lucky as Alex was pretty ill! Got the flight the next day after a 2 hour delay, and the airport is crack up....the runway is just a tiny field and the plane is made for tinchy Bolivians! We had to crouch down to even fit on it!
Thats about it for Rurrenabaque and the jungle.....had a wicked time!
