Hey everyone! We thought we'd finally do a blog for Florianopolis, as we haven't updated you for a while....
We got here last Friday after such a long coach journey, from Parati to Sao Paulo and then from Sao Paulo to Florianopolis - in total it took about 20 hours which was pretty long, but we managed to sleep most of it! The coaches were surprisingly quite comfy and we got free water (woo hoo!) which is always a bonus.
When we got here, we decided to get a taxi to the hostel as we had no idea where we were going, and obviously neither did the taxi driver, as he had to ask someone on the street!! Good taxi driver... When we arrived at the hostel, we had to wait for the hostel owner to wake up for us to actually check in, so we put our bags in a room and changed into our bikinis and headed for the beach. We also bumped into Anje, who we knew from Rio and Ilha Grande so it was good to see him! The hostel is really nice and laid back - the man who runs it is the nicest man in the world - he'll give you free beer and free nights here! Crazy man! He also never stops smiling! The hostel is situated right on the beach front and we have steps down from our hostel to the sea, so it's bloody good! No wonder we're still here....it's just so easy! Our regular routine is to wake up....go to the beach.....go and get some ice cream (from the best ice cream shop ever!!) and come back....have a BBQ and have a few drinks - who would really want to leave!
The weather has been really nice for most of the time we've been here, sometimes its just too hot to lay down and sunbathe! For a couple of days though, we had really bad rain and some thunder and lightening. One of the bedrooms flooded, and all their things got soaked, but luckily we're in a 4 bedroom dorm (which we have to ourselves! bargain!) so our stuff was OK.
We headed to another beach one day, which is about a 15 minute walk, which was really nice as well. The waves here are quite violent though and the tide comes in mighty quick so we were laying on the beach and all of a sudden, all of our stuff was soaking as a big wave had come over us! All our towels and books were soaking but it was quite funny!!
Anje left after a couple of days of us being here and since we've met some really nice - but crazy - people! There was an Irish girl called Claire who was really good fun - we formed a Destinys Child tribute band some nights and shook our bootays to Single Ladies which is always good! Then there are the Swedish guys + one Aussie, who are actually mental....they drink literally 24/7 and I think one time didn't sleep for about 3 days! We just cant keep up!
We went out into town a couple of nights which were really good. The first night, we went to a few bars and danced a little and then headed down to the beach with some beers, which was nice. The first bus back though is at about 6am so managing to stay up until then, from having left at 9pm, was a bloody struggle! I was literally on the floor asleep... The second night was really good, and we were a bit more alive! Girls got in free to the place where we went, which was a club type place where everyone was coupled up and danced really close together which was a bit uncomfortable when men tried to grab you but it was all good fun! One man who had the smelliest afro literally rammed my face in it whilst dancing, so that was my cue to stop!! We did get a couple of free drinks though because the barman was a little stupid so including a cab home, I only spent about 20 reais which is about 6 pounds!
Anyway, I think that's about all! We're leaving here Wednesday afternoon and heading onto the Iguazu Falls and then down to Buenos Aires so we're really looking forward to that!
Hope everyone's OK back at home!
Miss you all lots
Lissie and Lexy
