Wednesday 6th January.
Although it's Wednesday in Australia, because they are 11 hours ahead, it's still only Tuesday in England, so I was completely confused what day and time it was all day. It didn't matter though because we were finally here! We checked in to our hostel, Sydney Central YHA, which is more like a small budget hotel than a hostel. We were upgraded to a private double room for free, thanks to Kirsty's friend who now lives in Sydney knowing people who worked there. It was just our luck that it was raining when we arrived. Luckily, there is a cinema room with big bean bags and a huge screen where they play films all day in the hostel, so we decided to hang out in there and watch a film. As we were really jet lagged and tired anyway we didn't really mind just taking the day to get to know the hostel and just rest so we could start to feel normal again. We ended up sleeping for a few hours in the afternoon and then got up and went to find a supermarket. We bought some food shopping from Woolworths (they still exist in Oz). Back at the hostel they have two large kitchen areas where everyone can store and cook their own food, so we made some chicken wraps for dinner. We sat chatting to a girl called Talia who lives near Melbourne, and she had come to Sydney on her own for a few days. Her sister was travelling around Europe and is currently in London. We spoke to a Scottish man called Sam too, who was telling us he had been travelling for a year too. After a few hours we got our Australia book out and started planning what to do for the next few days. By about 11:30pm we went to bed and called it a night.
