Saturday 16th January
The hangover was here. We were meant to head off early but hung around for tea and toast and to try and clear our heads before a long drive. As soon as we felt a bit better, we did a 6 hour drive to Byron Bay. Luckily Kirsty drove first, because for the first hour I was sat next to her throwing up in a plastic bag as we went along the motorway. It wasn't my finest hour but we were trying to laugh it off. I took over after a couple of hours through Coffs Harbour, and then swapped back with Kirsty. We managed to not get lost all the way to Byron but as soon as we come off the motorway we took a de tour and ended up seeing a lot of countryside. We both said it looked like the UK. It was so green. Once we were back on track we checked in to our camp site, First Sun resort. It backed on to the beach and was a minute walk to the centre so it was a perfect location. It was busy though and there were a lot of families around as it's the summer school holidays in Australia. We went for a walk to check the place out and went to look at the beach. We were both really tired though so after we grabbed some pizza by the beach, we decided to go back to the site and watch TV in the communal/kitchen area. We got speaking to an Australian guy called Lawrence and an Irish girl called Sinead. Lawrence said he lives on the Gold Coast and if we have no where to stay when we get there then we are welcome to stay with him. They were trying to convince us to go out drinking, but I had my head on the table struggling to stay awake so that wasn't happening! We finished watching a film then happily went to bed.
