I'm starting this entry at the Port of Larne. Today is Monday, June 27. We've been up since 530am to catch a 635 train from Galway to Dublin Heuston station, take a 900 bus to Dublin Connolly station, to catch a 935 train to Belfast (which we got on with about a minute to spare, luck was on our side today). Once we got to Belfast we had about an hour to wait to get on a 1242 train to Larne Harbour. It's already been a full day of travel with more to come! We were supposed to take the ferry tomorrow morning at 715 but we transferred it to 530pm tonight since there's nowhere to stay around the port.
I officially have a cold, but apparently our room in Edinburgh was upgraded to an 8 bed room (instead of a laughable 30). Either touching the lucky grinding wheel at Jameson is the cause of our luck today with travel, or our fairies are really looking out for us. 3 more hours until ferry takeoff! Just had a latte and a pineapple toastie in the port building... Very delicious, and yes, it DID come with a mayo coleslaw... Who would have guessed that??!
PS.. Dad, I had fish and chips last night! It was pretty good...
All right let's keep going... We made it to Troon! Took about 2 hours on the ferry, and then a bus off the ferry to the port, then a taxi to the train station. Immediately upon arrival to the train, here it comes! Hopped on the train to Glasgow so we can hop on another to Edinburgh. Really? Once we get to the hostel I'll do a little recap of all the modes of transportation as well as times, this train to Glasgow left at 752pm. This is ridiculous... Currently on our 13th, almost 14th hour of travel today.
We made it to Glasgow! Got in at 840pm and our train to Edinburgh leaves at 905... Not too bad of a wait, I suppose. Our hostel is apparently a 10 minute walk from the station... I hope you guys are enjoying reading this more than I'm enjoying living it today.
Finally made it to Edinburgh around 1020pm... walked to our hostel (mainly all up hill) and it's under construction. We did not get any upgrade since we added a third night, but the 30 bed room is split into 2 floors, so it's really not too bad. There's lockers right next to the beds as well which is even better. It's now 1122pm, been up since 530am, traveling since 630am, and ridiculously exhausted. Not setting an alarm...
We also don't have free Internet, and it costs 30 pence to use public washrooms... Ireland spoiled us. I miss it already...
Picture count: 338 (I deleted some blurry ones, and only took a couple of travel)
See ya in London on Thursday!
Tuesday, June 28...
Since we don't have wifi at the moment I'm just going to add to this entry until I can post. The beds here are decently comfortable and the showers are very nice.
We wandered around completely aimlessly and found a cute outdoor cafe for brunch. We also found a little shop with accessories where I bought a pair of earrings and a ring :) Al got a hair clip and earrings.
There are so many vintage shops around here, and we ended up trying things on and taking funny pictures. I almost bought silky gloves, but decided against it even though I really really wanted them. Al found herself a cute vintage purse. We went into a hat shop and tried on a bunch... Its been ridiculous so far, but Edinburgh is gorgeous and we are in view of the castle! Were taking a haunted tour tomorrow night, very very excited about it.
