Lisa and Simon`s Around the World Tour
After leaving Canberra we drove south past Melbourne and out to the Great Ocean Road, supposedly one of the greatest drives in the world. Took a few days over it and whilst the weather wasnt the best, the wildlife more than made up for it. Having only seen Aussie wildlife in captivity (or in the case of roos as roadkill) we were surprised to come across Koalas with their young in trees at the side of the road, and the biggest shock, scores of roos grazing on a golf course.
Returned from the Great Ocean Road to Melbourne where we spent a few more days. This was the first time we had seen a town getting ready for Christmas. It was just like home, only the buskers and carol singers in the streets wore shorts!
Highlight of our time in Victoria (apart from watching womens beach volleyball of course) was Phillip Island, a small chunk of land a couple of hours from Melbourne where every night a couple of thousand penguins come out of the sea, and once they have decided they are brave enough, the waddle up the beach and into the dunes for the night. So good we went back. No photos as the rangers wont allow it.
After PI we slowly made of way up the East Coast towards Sydney. This was the time we had been waiting for. After a busy couple of months we got to start be beach bums. A bit chilly to start with though, but as we went further north, the weather improved, as did the sea temperature.
